Ready to bring your retail leadership experience somewhere you can make a real impact and keep growing?

At Bunnings, you’ll have the opportunity to lead a large team, take ownership of a busy department and work alongside experienced leaders who genuinely collaborate and support one another. If you enjoy developing people, delivering great customer experiences and want to keep building your own leadership capability, this could be a great next step.

About the role

As a Department Manager, you’ll be at the heart of a fast-paced retail environment, leading a team of 20+ and having real ownership of how your department performs.

You’ll work closely with fellow Department Managers across areas such as Service, Inside the Home, Builders and Lifestyles & Garden, alongside your Operations Manager and Complex Manager. It’s a team environment where leaders share ideas, solve problems together and support each other to deliver the best experience for customers and team.

You’ll combine people leadership with commercial and operational responsibility, from driving sales and service to merchandising, stock management and planning. Just as importantly, you’ll have opportunities to broaden your experience, grow your leadership capability and explore pathways that are yours to build.

It’s all part of Inspiring you to give it a red hot go, with the support to learn, contribute and take on new challenges.

What’s involved

You’ll have the opportunity to:

  • Lead, coach and support a team of 20+ to create a safe, engaged and welcoming environment.
  • Develop your team through regular coaching, clear expectations, recognition and meaningful performance conversations.
  • Partner with other Department Managers and store leaders to solve problems, share ideas and keep the wider store running smoothly.
  • Use sales, service and operational insights to spot opportunities and improve department performance.
  • Plan rosters and resources around customer demand, making sure your team is ready to provide a great experience.
  • Take ownership of strong retail fundamentals including merchandising, product availability, replenishment, stock accuracy and loss prevention.
  • Build positive working relationships with merchandising teams, store leadership and suppliers.
  • Broaden your operational experience through Duty Manager responsibilities, including opening and closing the store.

About You

You’re an experienced retail leader who enjoys bringing out the best in people while keeping an eye on the bigger picture.

You know that strong results come from engaged teams, great service and getting the retail fundamentals right. You’re comfortable moving between coaching a team member, reviewing sales performance, solving an operational challenge and helping customers.

Collaboration comes naturally to you. You enjoy sharing ideas, working alongside other leaders and contributing beyond your own department to help the whole store succeed.

Most importantly, you’re keen to keep developing. You’re looking for a role where you can bring the experience you already have, take on meaningful challenges and continue building your leadership capability.

What you’ll need

  • Experience leading a sizeable team within retail or another high-volume, customer-focused environment.
  • Strong people leadership skills, with experience coaching, developing and supporting team performance.
  • A practical understanding of retail operations including sales, merchandising, stock management and product availability.
  • Confidence using performance measures and customer insights to identify opportunities and take action.
  • A strong commitment to creating a safe, inclusive and well-run workplace.
  • Good communication, planning and stakeholder skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across a busy store.
  • Confidence taking on Duty Manager responsibilities, including store opening and closing.
  • Flexibility to work a roster that includes a minimum of one in three weekends and some public holidays.

If you’re ready to take the next step in your retail leadership career, we’d love to hear from you. Bring your experience, your ideas and your passion for developing great teams and discover what you can build at Bunnings. Apply today and give it a red hot go.
