Job Description
Civil Engineer working in Quantity Surveying (QS) is mainly responsible forcost estimation, quantity measurement, contract management, and cost control of construction projects. Below is a typicalJob Description (JD) used in construction or infrastructure companies.
1. Quantity Take-Off & Measurement
- Preparequantity take-offs from drawings (BOQ preparation).
- Measure quantities ofearthwork, concrete, steel, masonry, finishing works, etc.
- Verify quantities withtender drawings and IFC drawings.
- Maintain measurement sheets and records.
2. Cost Estimation & Budgeting
- Preparecost estimates and project budgets.
- Analyzematerial, labour, and equipment costs.
- Assist intender preparation and bid evaluation.
- Compare estimated cost with actual project cost.
3. BOQ & Tendering
- PrepareBill of Quantities (BOQ).
- Review contractor quotations.
- Assist intender documentation and contract preparation.
4. Billing & Payment Certification
- Prepare and verifyRA bills (Running Account Bills).
- Checkcontractor and subcontractor bills.
- Prepareclient billing and payment certificates.
- Trackproject cash flow.
5. Contract Administration
- Studycontract agreements and technical specifications.
- Handlevariations, extra items, and change orders.
- Maintain records forclaims and disputes.
6. Cost Control & Monitoring
- Monitorproject expenditure vs budget.
- Identifycost saving opportunities.
- Preparecost reports and forecasts.
7. Coordination
- Coordinate withsite engineers, planning team, procurement team, and contractors.
- Ensure quantities matchsite execution and drawings.
8. Documentation & Reporting
- MaintainBOQ records, quantity sheets, rate analysis, and cost reports.
- Preparemonthly progress and cost reports.
Skills Required
- Knowledge ofBOQ preparation and rate analysis
- Understanding ofconstruction drawings
- Proficiency inExcel, AutoCAD, and QS software
- Knowledge ofcontracts (FIDIC or similar)
- Goodanalytical and negotiation skills
