Department Overview
The Electric Engineering team at PG&E is responsible for delivering safe, reliable, and efficient electric service to customers. The organization supports electric distribution and transmission operations including planning, engineering, maintenance, construction, asset management, restoration, and emergency response activities.
Position Summary
PG&E is seeking an Associate Project Engineer (ESC) – Substation to support engineering and project execution activities within Electric Engineering. This is an entry-level engineering role working under the guidance of experienced engineers and project teams.
The ideal candidate will assist with technical engineering support, project coordination, design review, construction support, and engineering documentation for routine substation and utility infrastructure projects.
This is a hybrid position supporting projects within the PG&E service territory.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Project Support
Assist with project walkdowns and collaborate with project teams to establish scope, schedule, and cost commitments.
Gather technical information from field data and project stakeholders.
Prepare engineering cost estimates and project forecasts.
Support development of engineering schedules and track project progress.
Assist with engineering studies, technical analysis, and problem-solving activities.
Design & Technical Coordination
Review engineering drawings, technical documents, and design packages.
Coordinate with internal teams, contractors, and design groups to ensure project quality and compliance.
Support design review meetings and project coordination activities.
Assist in approving revisions to existing drawings for routine projects.
Procurement & Construction Support
Support material procurement activities for assigned projects.
Review vendor drawings, material requests, and equipment specifications under supervision.
Provide construction support and assist in resolving field engineering issues.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Coordinate project activities with engineering, construction, and business teams.
Maintain communication with project managers, contractors, and stakeholders to support successful project delivery.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
Strong analytical, technical, and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work in a hybrid and collaborative engineering environment.
Preferred Qualifications
1+ years of experience in electrical engineering and design.
Familiarity with utility, transmission, or substation engineering projects.
Knowledge of engineering drawings, project coordination, and construction support activities.
Experience with engineering design tools and technical documentation.
Work Environment
Hybrid work model supporting projects within the PG&E service territory in California.
