Department:

School of Art Graphic Design Program Director

Department's Website:

https://art.uark.edu

Summary of Job Duties:

The School of Art at the University of Arkansas invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Graphic Design to start August 2027. This is a standard nine-month faculty appointment with a workload of 40% teaching, 40% research/creative activity, and 20% service. Teaching will be the equivalent of a 2/2 load in the Graphic Design BFA program, the Master of Design in Communication Design, the upcoming design minor, and/or the school’s foundations program. The ideal candidate brings practical knowledge in emerging technologies and design futures, including areas such as artificial intelligence, machine learning, virtual reality, augmented reality, extended reality, experimental design, data visualization, speculative design, and other innovative design methods. The successful candidate will demonstrate future-thinking mindsets in teaching, creative practice, and scholarly research, with consideration for how AI is transforming visual communication, design authorship, image-making, typography, branding, interaction, publishing, and other areas of graphic-design practice.

This is an in-person position, not a remote position. Most university classes are offered face-to-face, and extensive in-person engagement in such activities as office hours, student advising, and departmental, college, and university committee meetings is essential to advancing student success and departmental effectiveness.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job duty, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.
