Position Description

About the College

Founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges, the College of Arts & Sciences is comprised of 15 departments, offering a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics, physical sciences, and natural sciences. The College has more than 10,000 students enrolled, representing more than a quarter of the overall Texas Tech University student population while maintaining a 22:1 student-to-faculty ratio.

About the Department/School/Area

The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Texas Tech is one of the largest departments on campus. It includes 43 tenured and tenure-track faculty lines, 6-8 postdoctoral scholars each year, and an annual average of 15 lecturers and instructors. As of Fall 2026, the Department enrolled 216 undergraduate majors and 117 graduate students, with 105 supported full-time as graduate part-time instructors, teaching assistants, or research assistants. Our faculty, postdocs, and graduate students engage in active research across a wide range of areas in mathematics and statistics. The Department is committed to sustaining a strong research profile while providing high-quality education to our students. We are dedicated to our students’ success and to advancing research that benefits our field and the broader community.

Major/Essential Functions

In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a dynamic student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with a breadth of student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across the areas of teaching, research/creative activity, and service.

As a faculty member in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics you will be expected to:

1) contribute to the teaching mission of the department
2) mentor graduate students
3) develop a record of peer-reviewed/funded research
4) provide service to the department, college, and university.

 

Faculty Qualifications

1.PhD in Mathematics or a closely related field obtained by September 1, 2027;2.Active research program connected to complex analysis. 3.Evidence of teaching experience in undergraduate mathematics, including serving as instructor of record, teaching assistant, grader, tutor, or similar role. 

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the required qualifications, individuals with the following preferred qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply:1.Research interests that complement and offer potential for collaboration with the department's existing strengths, including geometric function theory, discrete conformal geometry, circle packing, conformal mapping, Riemann surfaces, Teichmüller theory, quasiconformal and quasisymmetric maps, complex dynamics, hyperbolic geometry, complex geometry, potential theory, and related areas.2.Record of effective, evidence-based teaching practices that actively engage students in the learning process.3.Record of professional service, outreach, and collaboration.4.Previous postdoctoral position in mathematics or related area.5.Record of external funding, including research grants, travel grants, or other forms of scholarly support. 6.Record of mentoring graduate and/or undergraduate students.

Pay Statement

Compensation is commensurate upon the qualifications of the individual selected and budgetary guidelines of the hiring department, as well as the institutional pay plan.
