Department:

Biology

Job Summary:

Tenure Track Faculty members perform the functions of teaching, research or creative activities, and service and are assigned to an academic unit appropriate for their Discipline descriptor. Tenure Track Faculty members are usually hired as assistant professors and enter the tenure track. For example, an assistant professor must serve a probationary period of five years and be reviewed for tenure during his or her sixth year of continuous employment at the University. Tenure Track Faculty members may be hired, particularly at the associate and full ranks, with a reduction in the tenure probationary period, as explained in the Tenure Policy. Tenure Track Faculty members at the Associate and Full ranks are full members of the Graduate Faculty, while those at the Assistant rank are Associate Members of the Graduate Faculty.

Job Description:

The Department of Biology at the University of Mississippi invites applications for a 9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the broad area of Quantitative Cell Biology. We seek candidates who use data-rich experimental approaches to study cells and to uncover molecular mechanisms across cellular, developmental, microbial, plant, organismal, and ecological systems.

We are especially interested in candidates with strong expertise in experimental approaches for measuring gene expression, gene regulation, and dynamic biological processes in living cells or multicellular organisms, who are prepared to lead an independent research program driven by fundamental science and curiosity-driven questions. Preferred approaches include quantitative live-cell imaging, optogenetics, advanced bioimage analysis, spatial and temporal gene expression measurements, phenomics, and AI-enabled analysis of biological data. This position should build upon the department’s existing strengths while significantly expanding its capacity in quantitative, mechanistic, and the integration of biology across scales and methods.

The Department of Biology is a broad-based department of 25 tenure-track and 21 instructional faculty members that educates over 900 undergraduate biology majors and more than 60 graduate students (Ph.D. and M.S.).
