POSITION SUMMARY:
Please note:Â This is a seasonal position, working 30-40 hours a week starting now-December 15th (when the Garden Center closes) and will begin again in March when the Garden Center reopens for the spring. Flexibility in schedule-including evening and weekends- is required.
The Assistant Manager is hands-on management of the garden center and its staff in such a way that outstanding quality and customer service are kept to a high standard. Assist customers in finding all the products they need to produce a beautiful garden/landscape. Ensure excellent merchandising of all product lines. Assist with the monitoring of sales and inventory. Develop and implement plans to improve and grow the garden center. To obtain profitable results through proper and effective management of sales staff, enforcing floor and operational functions and ensuring customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES(comprehensive, but not limited to):
Â
- Assist with creating, implement, and oversee all daily tasks
- Assist in the interviewing, training, coaching, appraising, rewarding and disciplining of employees
- Writes the work schedule for all employees
- Actively seek out ways that the customer can be better served
- Know all register functions and be able to perform these functions correctly and efficiently
- Keep cash area clean, organized and stocked with all proper forms and documents and all other supplies necessary to process sales
- Perform daily opening and/or closing register procedures
- Responsible for learning the sun/shade and watering requirements for all plant products
- Be aware of all current sales and/or promotions
- Know the product we carry and what items can be cross-sold with that product
- Assist with watering plants and coordinate the watering schedule
- Straighten and consolidate plant product, keeping displays full, neat and clean
- Assist in visual merchandising
- Assist with promotional events
- Assist with holiday porch pot classes
- Ensure opening and closing procedures are done correctly
- Assist with the general maintenance of the store, both inside and outside
- Complete the duties and responsibilities of the Store Manager in his/her absence
- Able to work a flexible work schedule
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous management experience a plus
- An interest in plants or experience in horticulture
- Ability to develop, plan and execute a merchandising plan to increase sales

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
- High School diploma or GED.
