Assistant Dean of Teaching and Learning

Position Summary

Reporting to the Chief Academic Officer, the Assistant Dean of Teaching and Learning provides operational leadership for faculty development, instructional quality, and academic support services across the institution. The position oversees faculty professional development, faculty tenure and promotion processes, holistic support, coaching, and advising, online learning, academic integrity, the Honors Program, the academic appeals process and committee, and academically related student complaints. This role also leads faculty onboarding, and ensures alignment between teaching practices, student learning outcomes, and institutional goals.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversight and coordination of the Center of Innovation, Teaching, and Learning (CITL)
  • Supervises the CITL Faculty Coordinator, the advising staff,  
  • Ensures professional development of faculty aligns with the college’s strategic plan and direction
  • In conjunction with School Deans, tracks faculty participation and engagement of professional development opportunities, along with outcomes upon faculty completion of professional development courses/fellowships/workshops/etc.  
  • Oversees assessment of professional development activities for faculty
  • Stays current with higher education research pertaining to teaching and learning of faculty and students
  • Contributes to the academic innovation of the institution through introducing best practices, emerging technologies, and initiatives that contribute to teaching and learning
  • Facilitates faculty onboarding initiatives for full-time and part-time faculty
  • Manages the faculty tenure and promotion process in collaboration with the CAO and HR.
  • Oversees online learning, including faculty training and support for Brightspace (D2L), course quality standards, and universal design
  • Leads initiatives to strengthen teaching effectiveness, inclusive pedagogy, and evidence-based instructional practices
  • Implements and supervises the holistic advising and coaching model at the college
  • Oversees the continued implementation, effectiveness, and sustainability of the holistic student support model
  • Partakes in the creation of an academic master plan
  • Manages the academic appeals process and the academic appeals committee  
  • Oversees the review and resolution of academically related student concerns
  • Oversees the academic integrity policy
  • Expected participation in college committees
  • Other duties as assigned  

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in higher education, curriculum and instruction, educational leadership, or a closely related field
  • Teaching experience in a college setting
  • Progressive experience in faculty development, academic support, or academic administration
  • Experience working in a community college setting
  • At least 3-4 years of supervision experience
  • Demonstrated experience with online learning platforms, such as Brightspace (D2L)
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across faculty, staff, and governance bodies
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity-focused teaching and student success frameworks

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience overseeing faculty tenure and promotion processes
  • Experience leading faculty development centers or instructional innovation initiatives
  • Experience managing Honors Programs, academic advising units, or online learning departments
  • Familiarity with SUNY policies, NYSED regulations, and community‑college governance structures
  • Experience developing or implementing faculty onboarding programs, or teaching quality standards
  • Demonstrated success in improving instructional quality, modernizing teaching practices, or implementing new academic technologies

Salary and Benefits Information

Annual 12-month salary is $92,000. The College offers a comprehensive benefits package that includes medical and dental insurance, short-and long-term disability, generous vacation, and sick leave, paid holidays, pre-tax flexible spending accounts, retirement plans, tax-deferred compensation, as well as employee and dependent tuition waivers. PSLF waivers offered.
