Midwest Direct is looking for an Assistant Controller!
**$500 Sign-On Bonus!**
Job duties include:
The Assistant Controller will collaborate with the CFO in the daily operations of the accounting department, assisting in the month-end close process to ensure accurate financial reporting. This specific role focuses heavily on risk management, cost accounting, variance analysis, account reconciliations, inventory control (customer escrow accounts), forecasting, document processes, and tax reporting. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who can communicate effectively with both corporate executives and plant floor managers to optimize operational efficiency and safeguard company assets and financial integrity.
Job Responsibilities:
- Risk Management: Maintain company insurance policies including change reviews, yearly audits, bond requests, premium adjustments, and premium payments
- Cost Accounting & Variance Analysis: Investigate standard variances, analyze labor reporting, and perform plant absorption calculations.
- Financial Reporting & Closing: Assist month-end close processes, coordinate financial statement consolidation, and assist in the preparation of monthly business review packages.
- Account Reconciliation:Provide general ledger audit support and analysis including intercompany account balances and bank reconciliations.
- Inventory Control: Oversee physical inventory audits (stamps, customer postage balances & fleet vehicle titles).
- Team Management: Supervise and mentor accounting team across Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), Fixed Assets, cash applications, and other general ledger activities.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Partner with the CFO to drive thebudget processincluding updates of rollingcap-ex forecasts.
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish, test, and maintain robust internal control policies and procedures to minimize financial and operational risk.
- Tax Reporting & Support:Calculate, prepare, and file quarterly sales & use tax, CAT & IFTA returnsincompliance with local and state requirements.
Schedule:
- Monday through Friday
Compensation:
- $90,000 - $110,000

Qualifications
Qualifications & Skills
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance; an MBA is preferred.
- Certifications: Possessing or candidate for a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) or CMA (Certified Management Accountant) designation is highly valued.
- Experience: Minimum of5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years within an industrial or manufacturing environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong expertise in Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is needed and advanced Excel capabilities is critically required (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data modeling).
- Soft Skills: Excellent analytical problem-solving traits, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to explain complex financial metrics to non-financial plant operations teams.
