The Director of Inpatient Services oversees inpatient nursing departments. The Director will supervise and manage the performance of assigned leaders and personnel and serve as the liaison with internal organizational leadership. As a director, the position will participate in overall departmental strategic planning and budget management and provide input on organization-wide risks and opportunities. The position will perform all functions within the scope of their practice as needed.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Oversite

• Measures and evaluates clinical performance and competence of staff through chart audits, clinical observations, patient surveys, patient and physician input, and performance improvement activities.
• Develops Best Practices in the delivery of patient care, including evidence based clinical standards of care and standard work, and ensure ongoing compliance through the development and implementation of education and competency assessments.
• Promotes and develops teamwork within the clinical departments.
• Participates in leadership meetings and committees as assigned and assists with the implementation and interpretation of policies, procedures, standards, and regulations for personnel, patients, medical staff, and the public.
• Works closely with leaders to coordinate an effective distribution and utilization of staff and services during their shift based on patient acuity and staff experience, as well as providing support to staff.

Safety/Security

• Support and maintain a culture of safety and quality.
• Possess a familiarity with the hospital environment of care codes including appropriate responses.

Patient Care

• Able to perform direct patient care within scope of RN practice act and according to hospital policies and procedures, when needed or assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required

• Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Nursing, or equivalent credits if in an Associate's to Master's Program.
• Minimum of five (5) years of experience in Inpatient nursing.
• Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory experience in Nursing.
• Current RN licensure to practice in Washington.
• BLS, ACLS, PALS, and NRP certified through the AHA within thirty days of hire and maintained while employed.

Preferred

• ICU or Emergency nursing background or Medical-Surgical Nursing Certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

This position is primarily worked in a clinical and office environment. This may include irregular working hours including weekends and on-call responsibilities. Travel to off-site locations for meetings, education and training may be required.  The position will frequently require walking, lifting, reaching carrying, kneeling, bending, stooping, pushing and pulling of objects weighing up to 20lbs.  The position will occasionally require the ability to lift, and carry, up to 50 pounds and push or pull over 50 pounds, as well as require bending, twisting, squatting, reaching, reaching overhead, sitting and standing frequently. Occasionally the position requires climbing, kneeling and crawling. The position requires continuous finger dexterity and fine manipulation. All basic life functions such as hearing, seeing, speaking, standing and walking are required.
