Sr. Software Engineer--M365 UIPilot team

The UIPilot team at Microsoft builds an AI-powered computer-use platform that enables agents to interact with software and carry out tasks across applications and operating systems. We combine AI, cross-platform interaction, and cloud infrastructure to translate human intent into reliable execution—from individual actions to complex, multi-step workflows.

As aSr. Software Engineer on the UIPilot team, you will build capabilities across agent planning and reasoning, application interaction, execution orchestration, and failure recovery. You will help make computer-use agents more capable, reliable, and scalable, enabling scenarios spanning productivity, workflow automation, and software validation.

We are looking for hands-on engineers with strong ownership, curiosity, and critical thinking. You should enjoy using AI to build software, exploring unfamiliar systems, and investigating problems deeply—while applying independent judgment and validating conclusions with evidence.

• Advance AI-powered computer use: Develop agent capabilities for planning, interacting with applications, evaluating outcomes, and recovering from failures across web and desktop environments.
• Build scalable platform capabilities: Design and deliver backend services, APIs, execution orchestration, and user-facing tools that support scenario onboarding and reliable execution across applications and operating systems.
• Strengthen reliability and diagnosability: Investigate issues across AI behavior, agent execution, application interactions, and cloud infrastructure.
• Establish root causes and improve evaluation, observability, performance, and recovery mechanisms.
• Accelerate engineering with AI: Use AI-powered coding agents throughout development and identify opportunities to integrate AI into engineering workflows.
• Validate solutions for correctness, security, reliability, and measurable impact.
• Own end-to-end engineering outcomes: Drive features from problem definition and technical design through implementation and production validation.
• Make thoughtful trade-offs and apply solid code review, testing, documentation, and operational practices.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

• Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
  • OR equivalent experience. 
• Solid ownership, curiosity, and critical thinking: Take responsibility for outcomes, seek to understand how systems work, and investigate beyond surface-level symptoms.
• Question assumptions, consider alternative explanations, and validate hypotheses with evidence. Follow through on resolution, collaborating and escalating when appropriate.
• Proficiency with AI-powered coding agents: Effectively use agentic tools to explore codebases, plan and implement changes, generate tests, and investigate failures.
• Recognize that AI-generated code and explanations may be incorrect or incomplete, and independently verify outputs through code inspection, testing, and runtime evidence.
• Solid engineering fundamentals and troubleshooting skills: Build maintainable software using Python or another relevant language, with the ability to work effectively in a Python-based stack.
• Understand APIs, automated testing, and service interactions, and reason clearly about system behavior and failure modes.
• Independent execution and effective collaboration: Translate ambiguous problems into actionable plans, make sound technical judgments, and clearly communicate findings, decisions, risks, and next steps.
• Experience building AI-powered agents, tool integrations, or computer-use capabilities, including planning, task evaluation, and execution recovery.
• Familiarity with FastAPI, Playwright, Windows UI automation, or TypeScript/React.
• Familiarity with iOS, Android, MacOS development and automation.
• Experience with distributed execution, containers, Kubernetes/AKS, or Azure services, including CI/CD, observability, and production troubleshooting.
