Microsoft Specialized Clouds Security Fundamentals is responsible for developing the foundational security capabilities that enable Microsoft to securely operate commercial, sovereign, and specialized cloud environments.Â
We are seeking aPrincipal Security Architect to provide technical leadership across Azure platform architecture, security, networking, and cloud infrastructure. This role will be responsible for defining scalable architectural patterns, driving security-by-design principles, and helping scale critical security solutions across multiple cloud environments, including sovereign and disconnected clouds.Â
The ideal candidate combines deep expertise in Azure, cloud security, networking, and distributed systems with the ability to influence engineering strategy across organizations. This individual will work closely with Sovereign Cloud Engineering, Azure platform teams, and Microsoft Security to build reusable architectures, reduce technical complexity, and accelerate the adoption of secure and scalable solutions across MSC. Current MSC strategy emphasizes durable cloud-agnostic architectures, sovereign security patterns, and scalable platform security investments across specialized cloud environments.Â
Responsibilities
- Define architecture and technical strategy for security platforms and services across Azure, sovereign, and specialized cloud environments.Â
- Drive scalable, secure, and resilient designs for cloud infrastructure, networking, identity, and access management solutions.Â
- Partner with Azure platform teams, Sovereign Cloud Engineering, and Microsoft Security to create reusable architectural patterns and reference implementations.Â
- Lead architecture reviews and provide technical guidance for complex security and infrastructure initiatives.Â
- Identify platform-level challenges and drive long-term solutions that improve scalability, reliability, security, and operational efficiency.Â
- Establish engineering standards, design principles, and best practices across cloud architecture, networking, and security domains.Â
- Influence technical direction across multiple teams and help align engineering investments toward common architectural goals.Â
- Mentor senior engineers and architects and foster a culture of engineering excellence and continuous learning.Â
- Drive adoption of security-by-design, zero trust, and defense-in-depth principles across engineering solutions.Â
- Participate in critical incident management, live-site reviews, and operational readiness activities when required.Â
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline.Â
10+ years of software engineering, cloud architecture, or infrastructure engineering experience.Â
Deep expertise in Microsoft Azure architecture, cloud services, and distributed systems.Â
Strong understanding of cloud networking, hybrid connectivity, network security, routing, segmentation, and secure access architectures.Â
Experience designing and implementing enterprise-scale security solutions, including identity, privileged access, and Zero Trust architectures.Â
Experience with Infrastructure as Code, policy enforcement, governance frameworks, and cloud security controls.Â
Proven track record of leading architecture initiatives across multiple teams and organizations.Â
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior technical and business leaders.Â
Preferred QualificationsÂ
Experience defining reference architectures and platform strategies adopted across large engineering organizations.Â
Knowledge of Azure networking services, identity platforms, Azure security services, and compliance frameworks.Â
Experience scaling security solutions across geographically distributed and highly regulated environments.Â
Experience mentoring architects and senior engineers and leading technical communities.Â
