The Customer Data Platform team at Walmart builds scalable, reliable technology that enhances the shopping experience for millions of customers worldwide. What you’ll do:

• Design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines and full-stack architectures spanning UI, backend, and data layers
• Partner with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Implement data integration, transformation, and quality frameworks using modern ETL and streaming technologies
• Ensure data governance compliance by applying regulatory and ethical standards across data handling and storage
• Leverage cloud platforms and big data tools to automate workflows and improve processing efficiency
• Monitor and troubleshoot data systems to maintain reliability and performance
• Provide technical guidance on data modeling, storage, and metadata management best practices
• Design and build highly scalable services, solving complex distributed systems problems using state-of-the-art technology
• Stay current on GenAI trends and contribute to innovative solutions that advance the Customer Data Platform
• Lead medium- to large-scale, cross-functional projects — from requirements gathering and architecture design through coding, unit testing, and delivery
• Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, drive root-cause analysis, and enhance designs to prevent recurrence
• Mentor junior engineers and lead by example as a hands-on, technically credible developer

What you’ll bring:

Education & Experience

BS or MS in Computer Science or related field, with 9+ years of experience building large-scale distributed systems

Core Engineering

• Strong experience designing and implementinghighly available backend services in Java
• Experience building streaming pipelines usingKafka and Spark
• Experience withSpring Boot–based services and RESTful APIs
• Hands-on experience with NoSQL databases, particularly Cassandra
• Experience with container orchestration frameworks, including Kubernetes
• Proficiency in Python/Scala, with experience in ETL and big data technologies such as Apache Spark, Hive, and Kafka
• Experience implementing and deploying machine learning models
• Solid understanding of data modeling techniques and metadata management across data platforms

Cloud & Data Platform

• Expertise designing, deploying, and managing scalable, secure solutions on cloud platforms such as GCP and Azure, including automation, monitoring, and optimization
• Strong knowledge of modern data warehousing solutions and cloud data architecture
• Proven experience designing and maintaining scalable data pipelines
• Experience implementing data quality frameworks and ensuring compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements

Reliability, Testing & Observability

• Experience with CI/CD strategies to improve reliability, including automation of repetitive build/test/deploy tasks
• Experience with telemetry and observability frameworks such as Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK
• Experience with unit and performance testing using tools such as Jenkins, JUnit, and JMeter/Gatling
• Experience troubleshooting performance bottlenecks using profiling tools such as jProfiler
• Ability to apply security policy requirements during code development and configuration

Leadership & Collaboration

• Proven ability to partner with business stakeholders and cross-functional teams on product development
• Experience troubleshooting production issues, engaging support teams, and driving root-cause analysis
• Track record of providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers
• Strong understanding of server-side platform development.
