The Facility
The Samuel S. Stratton VA Medical Center is a teaching hospital serving Veterans across northeastern New York, western New England and the Hudson Valley. Anesthesia services are provided in the operating rooms, on the hospital wards and in procedure suites, working alongside the surgical teams and the Anesthesiology Service.

Responsibilities
- Provide anesthesia for surgical specialties including general surgery, orthopedics and joint replacement, vascular, thoracic, ENT, urology, gynecology, ophthalmology, hand, podiatry and dental cases.
- Evaluate patients the morning of surgery, enter the pre-anesthesia note, and document cases in the electronic anesthesia record and post-operative notes.
- Cover anesthesia for procedures in endoscopy, radiology and other procedure suites, electroconvulsive therapy, emergency airway management and acute pain management as assigned.
- Provide bedside and electronic consultation for admitted patients.
- Teach and supervise health professions trainees rotating through the Anesthesiology Service, as assigned.
- Take after-hours call from home: phone response within 15 minutes and on site within 60 minutes when called back for a case.
Qualifications
- MD or DO
- Board Certified or Board Eligible by the American Board of Anesthesiology
- Current, full and unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state (never restricted, suspended or surrendered in any state)
- Cardiac anesthesia fellowship training and TAVR / TEE experience strongly preferred
- VA or other federal hospital experience is a plus
Schedule
On site Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM β 5:30 PM, with one anesthesiologist on site each weekday. After-hours call is taken from home on weeknights (5:30 PM β 7:00 AM), weekends (7:00 AM Saturday β 7:00 AM Monday) and federal holidays. Coverage is shared among a team of anesthesiologists, so full-time, part-time and rotating-block schedules are all welcome. Start as early as November 2026, after credentialing; a long-term, multi-year engagement.
