Founded in 2021, Alice L. Walton School of Medicine (AWSOM) is a nonprofit, four-year MD program that will enhance traditional medical education with the arts, humanities, and whole health principles. The school’s culture embraces self-care to empower students to care for their own well-being as well as their patients’. The school’s state-of-the-art medical education facility is located in Bentonville, Arkansas on the Crystal Bridges campus, home to Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art and Heartland Whole Health Institute. The school has been granted preliminary accreditation status by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.

About The Position
The Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Physiology (neuroscience emphasis) faculty will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to ensure students receive broad-based training experiences. Foundational sciences elements will be interwoven throughout all four years, and innovative approaches to teaching will be encouraged.
Physiology educators with expertise in more than one of the following medical disciplines are strongly encouraged to apply:
• Neurobiology

• Pathology
• Histology

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Develop Curriculum.
Oversee the development and integration of all content tied to their discipline, including the development of patient narratives and various assessment tools including, but not limited to, NBME-style multiple-choice questions and assessment of student performance in active learning sessions.
Evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement.
Participate in ongoing curriculum evaluation and continuous quality improvement by reviewing student performance, learner feedback, course evaluation findings, curriculum mapping data, and other relevant outcomes and implementing documented improvements as appropriate.
Teach.
Routinely engage in student instruction by developing and delivering content using active learning
methodologies. Collaborate with faculty colleagues to create integrated pre-session materials and deliver flipped classroom sessions. Facilitate small and large group active learning. Â
Evaluate Students.
Create learning objectives related to respective foundational sciences and map them
to the curriculum and national content guides. Use appropriate metrics and assessment methods to ensure that students meet the specified objectives.
Serve.
Participate actively in institutional service, including membership on departmental, school, and/or institutional committees (e.g., Curriculum Committee, Admissions Committee).
Grow Professionally.
Participate in professional development programs to enhance teaching, educational and other skills needed to execute their responsibilities.
Other.

Qualifications and Requirements
• Doctoral degree, such as a PhD, MD, DO, or equivalent terminal degree, in neuroscience, physiology, neurobiology, or a closely related discipline, required.
• > 2 years of experience in undergraduate medical education in LCME or COCA accredited medical school, required.
• Expertise in neuroscience and neuroanatomy, required.
• Proven scholarly work and accomplishments, required.
• Demonstrated experience in medical education, including curriculum development, required.
• Ability to apply adult learning theory, required.
• Experience designing, delivering, and evaluating integrated foundational science courses, preferred.
• Comfort with an array of educational technologies and active learning methodologies, preferred.

Physical Demands: In the work environment described, position requires sitting at a desk and utilizing a computer and a telephone for prolonged periods of time and good eye/hand coordination, bending and stretching, and physical stamina to lift and transport a minimum of 10 pounds. Visual acuity to review written materials is required for this job.

Work Environment: Work is performed full-time (Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m.) in a professional, climate-controlled office environment with standard office equipment, including computers, printers, and telephones. This role requires working in an open setting near colleagues. The noise level is typically low to moderate. The role also requires interaction with both the public and internal team members in a professional and courteous manner. Some local travel will be required, and a flexible schedule may be necessary to accommodate business needs, including occasional evening and weekend work hours.
