組織・チームのミッション

メルカリのデータ分析環境は月間で1200人程度(全従業員の6割程度)が利用し、すでにSocratesというLLMベースの分析アプリケーションを提供するなど 、その土壌は国内でも最先端の水準にあります。

しかしながら、データ活用のニーズやそれを取り巻く環境は急速に変化しており、既存のアプローチでは需要増にエンハンスの供給が追いつかない等、日々新たな課題が発生しています。私たちは、変化へ柔軟に対応し、データプロダクトがプロダクト開発を何倍にも加速させる環境を構築するため、データモデリングのライフサイクル自動化といった新たなアプローチを積極的にリードします。AI/LLMを活用してこれらの構造的な課題を解決し、全従業員のデータ活用体験を滑らかにすることで、お客さまへの提供価値の最大化を目指します。

業務内容

メルカリのデータ分析環境を次のフェーズへと進化させ、全従業員が最高の効率と信頼性をもってデータから価値を引き出せる、高度に自動化・知能化されたデータエコシステムの構築をリードしていただきます。

（業務例）

• 全社で利用されるSocrates、Basic Tables、Semantic Layer、各種ダッシュボードといった既存データプロダクトの継続的な機能改善・価値向上
• AI/LLM等の技術を活用し、最適化すべき処理の検知〜設計〜実装までのデータモデリングのライフサイクル全体を自動化する仕組みの構築
• AIと人間の両方が信頼できるSingle Source of Truthとして機能するセマンティックレイヤーの定義・実装による、誤ったデータに基づく意思決定リスクの低減
• 部門ごとにサイロ化しがちな知識（マーケティング施策など）を、全社の共通資産へと転換させるビジネスメタデータ基盤の整備
• 各部門固有の業務データをデータプロダクトとして整備することによる、全社横断の意思決定基盤の強化

• メルカリは、LLMを活用した分析アプリケーション「Socrates」を全社展開するなど、データとAIの活用において業界をリードしています。しかし、その先進性ゆえに、私たちは今、新たなフロンティアに立っています。
• 従来のデータエンジニアリングが「データを集め、使えるように整える」ことを主眼としていたのに対し、このポジションではデータとAI・人間の協業の可能性を最大限にunleashするという、まだ前例のない領域に挑みます。

Organization/Team Mission

Mercari's data analytics environment is used by around 1,200 employees per month (approximately 60% of our entire workforce). With offerings like "Socrates," our LLM-based analytics application, our data infrastructure is already one of the most advanced in Japan.

However, the needs for data utilization and the surrounding technologies are changing rapidly. This creates new challenges daily, as our existing approaches find it difficult to meet the growing demand for enhancements.

To adapt to these changes, we are actively leading new approaches, such as automating the data modeling lifecycle. Our goal is to build an environment where data products can significantly accelerate product development. By leveraging AI/LLM to solve these structural challenges, we will streamline the data experience for all employees and maximize the value we provide to our customers.

Work Responsibilities

This role will lead the evolution of Mercari's data analytics environment to its next phase. You will be responsible for building a highly automated and intelligent data ecosystem, enabling all employees to derive value from data with the highest levels of efficiency and trust.

Responsibilities:

• Continuously improve and add value to existing data products used company-wide, such as Socrates, Basic Tables, Semantic Layer, and various dashboards.
• Utilize technologies like AI/LLM to build a mechanism that automates the entire data modeling lifecycle, from identifying opportunities for optimization through to design and implementation.
• Define and implement a semantic layer to act as a Single Source of Truth (SSoT) for both humans and AI, thereby reducing the risk of decisions based on incorrect data.
• Develop a business metadata foundation to convert department-siloed knowledge (such as marketing strategies) into a common, company-wide asset.
• Collaborate with corporate functions (e.g., HR, Finance) to transform department-specific operational data into data products, thereby enhancing the cross-functional decision-making foundation.

Note: The scope of work is not fixed and will change flexibly according to the scale of challenges the team faces and technological progress.

• Leading at the Forefront: Mercari is a leader in applying data and AI, exemplified by our LLM application, "Socrates." Because we are at the forefront, you will be tackling challenges that others have yet to encounter.
• Beyond Traditional Engineering: This is not a conventional data engineering role focused on simply preparing data. You will step into an unprecedented field, tasked with unleashing the synergy between data, AI, and human intelligence.
• Solving Next-Generation Problems: The success of our advanced tools has introduced new, complex problems, such as managing query performance at scale and maintaining data trust in an automated environment. Your challenge will be to lead the way by:
• • Building an autonomous system where AI continuously drives the data modeling lifecycle.
  • Architecting a semantic layer from the ground up to serve as a single, reliable source of truth for both people and algorithms.

Your work will directly enhance the quality of company-wide decision-making and maximize the value we deliver to our customers. This is a chance to define the future of data-driven organizations.

Qualifications

• Required Experience/Skills
• • Resonates with the mission and values of the Mercari Group and its individual companies
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders who use data and leading initiatives to solve business challenges
  • Strong interest in, or hands-on experience with, improving data platforms and streamlining operations using AI/LLM
  • Experience designing, building, and managing data marts in a data warehouse (e.g., BigQuery) using SQL
  • Experience designing and implementing data governance and semantic layers using BI tools such as Looker

• Preferred Experience/Skills
• • Proactively keeps up with fast-changing technology trends, especially in AI/LLM, and applies them effectively in day-to-day work
  • Experience managing projects, particularly in gathering and prioritizing requirements from multiple stakeholders and defining project scope
