Summary
Under the direction of the Billing Department Manager, an Ambulance Billing Specialist executes all functions of the billing cycle and processes patient account transactions in accordance with established guidelines and procedures to optimize the collection of patient service revenues.
Dimensions
Personnel Guided: None directly supervised. Assist other Ambulance Billing Specialists in areas related to their duties, as they might be inter-related to the incumbent's area of responsibility.
Equipment: Telephone, 10-key calculator, copy machine, fax, scanning, printers, personal computer and all other equipment utilized in Patient Services Department.
Nature and Scope
The Ambulance Billing Specialist performs all duties relative to the billing cycle and helps maintain adequate control over individual patient accounts. These duties include data entry, all phases of first and third party billing; patient inquiries; requests for information from patients; payers or others; assistance to patients regarding insurance payments or other matters; and account receivable posting.
The incumbent should be a high school graduate or equivalent, motivated regarding billing and collection of patient accounts, and capable of working independently. Prior experience in medical terminology and/or billing with a medical insurance background is preferred. Other qualifications include good communication and organizational skills, ability to manage several responsibilities simultaneously and able to work well with others as part of a team.

Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); One year certificate from college or technical school; or three to six months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prior experience in medical terminology and/or billing with a medical insurance background is preferred.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of
Internet browser software; RescueNet Billing Software, Spreadsheet software; Word Processing software.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Current driver's licenses andNational Academy of Ambulance Coding (NAAC) certification is preferred.
