Mainframe Architect

We are seeking an experiencedMainframe Architect to lead the architecture, modernization, design, and delivery of enterprise-scale Mainframe solutions. In this role, you will lead analysis, design, development, testing, and support of Mainframe applications.

Responsibilities

• Define end-to-end architecture for Mainframe applications and platforms
• Design scalable, resilient, secure, and high-performing mainframe solutions
• Create architecture blueprints, design documents, and technical roadmaps
• Conduct architecture reviews and provide technical governance
• Evaluate technology options and provide recommendations aligned with enterprise standards
• Drive modernization initiatives including Mainframe transformation, API enablement, service-oriented architectures, event-driven integrations, cloud integration strategies, and legacy application modernization
• Assess application portfolios and define migration or coexistence strategies
• Support hybrid architectures involving Mainframe, distributed systems, and cloud platforms
• Provide technical leadership to development and support teams, and mentor senior developers and technical leads
• Define coding, deployment, and operational standards; lead design workshops and stakeholder discussions
• Review technical solutions, code quality, and operational readiness while ensuring adherence to architecture principles and best practices
• Participate in estimations, solution planning, risk assessments, production readiness reviews, release governance, and drive performance optimization and capacity planning initiatives

Requirements

• 13+ years of experience in Mainframe architecture and delivery
• Expertise in IBM z/OS, COBOL, and JCL
• Proficiency in CICS, Db2, and VSAM
• Background in IMS DB/IMS DC, TSO/ISPF, and REXX
• Skills in IBM MQ, Web Services (SOAP/REST), and API Integration
• Knowledge of Connect:Direct, Endevor, and Changeman
• Competency in Git Integration, CI/CD for Mainframe, and SonarQube
• Familiarity with Jenkins and Automated Testing Tools
• Qualifications in Db2 for z/OS, SQL Performance Tuning, and Database Design and Optimization
• Understanding of SMF, OMEGAMON, and MainView
• Capability to handle Performance and Capacity Management, Problem Determination, and Root Cause Analysis
• Proficiency in English at an Upper-Intermediate level (B2) or higher

• Showcase of Mainframe application assessment, rationalization, and Mainframe-to-Cloud integration
• Expertise in API-led connectivity and Microservices architecture
• Familiarity with Container platforms (OpenShift/Kubernetes) and Hybrid cloud architecture (Azure/AWS/GCP)
• Background in DevSecOps implementation
• Skills in application decomposition and service extraction
