Adult Basketball League Referee

Whether you're an experienced referee or someone with a strong knowledge of basketball and a passion for the game, this is a great opportunity to stay involved in the sport you love while making a positive impact in your community.

What You'll Do

• Call the Shots! Officiate adult basketball league games, making fair and consistent calls while enforcing league rules.

• Keep the Game Moving! Maintain proper court positioning, manage game flow, and help create a positive playing experience.

• Promote Good Sportsmanship! Encourage respectful competition and handle disagreements with confidence and professionalism.

• Keep Score! Accurately record final scores and game results.

• Set the Stage! Assist with gym setup and cleanup before and after games.

• Put Safety First! Recognize potential hazards, respond appropriately to concerns, and follow YMCA safety policies and procedures.

Previous refereeing experience is a plus!

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

1. Age Requirement: 18+
2. Knowledge of Basketball Rules.
3. Ability to move quickly, stay active for the duration of games, and maintain focus.
4. Must be able to have clear, confident communication with players, coaches, and co-officials.
5. Ability to manage disputes calmly and professionally and exhibit impartiality and fairness.
6. Previous Officiating Experience, preferred.
7. Ability to interact with participants in a friendly and respectful manner.
8. Must be CPR/First Aid Certification, or ability to obtain certification upon hire.
9. Must have availability: Wednesdays 5:30-7:30p & Sundays 10:00a – 2:00p
10. Have a strong Leadership presence and be confident under pressure
11. Have strong attention to detail
12. Be Adaptable to working with various age groups and skill levels
