About the Role

The Medical Records Director oversees the management, organization, accuracy, security, and confidentiality of resident medical records. This role supports quality clinical operations while helping ensure compliance withHIPAA, state and federal regulations, and facility policies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Oversee the creation, maintenance, organization, and storage of resident medical records.
• Ensure records are accurate, complete, current, and maintained in accordance with regulatory requirements.
• Monitor documentation related to admissions, discharges, transfers, and ongoing resident care.
• Conduct routine medical record audits and address documentation deficiencies.
• Collaborate with nursing, therapy, social services, and administrative departments regarding documentation requirements.
• Process authorized medical record requests from residents, families, healthcare providers, legal representatives, and other approved parties.
• Maintain and support electronic health record (EHR) systems.
• Train and provide guidance to medical records staff as needed.
• Prepare medical record reports, audits, and documentation for internal and external reviews.
• Maintain strict confidentiality and safeguard resident protected health information (PHI).
• Assist with survey preparation and regulatory compliance related to medical records.
• Respond to documentation requests and inquiries from regulatory agencies and authorized personnel.
• Promote accurate, organized, consistent, and timely medical record practices throughout the facility.

Qualifications

• Previous experience inmedical records, health information management, or a related healthcare field preferred.
• Experience inskilled nursing or post-acute care strongly preferred.
• Knowledge ofHIPAA, medical record standards, and applicable state and federal healthcare regulations.
• Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
• Proficiency withelectronic medical records/EHR systems and standard office technology.
