Accountant Fixed Assets  

Midland College | Midland, Texas 

JOB SUMMARY 

Enter and reconcile fixed assets and non-capital inventory items, facilitate annual fixed asset audit, and update property transfers and disposals as needed. Prepare journal entries, prepare interdepartmental charges, prepare monthly sales tax report, prepare unclaimed property annually, review W-9's, prepare 1099's, record donations and check requests, and print checks.

 ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain fixed asset inventory system for the college, including entering fixed asset additions, disposals, and transfers
  • Facilitate annual fixed asset inventory, review and update inventory transfers and disposals, and perform fixed asset inventory audits of selected departments
  • Reconcile asset additions to accounts payable records to ensure that all additions are included in the fixed asset system
  • Enter journal entries, budget adjustments, and other accounting transactions into the accounting system
  • Assist departments with questions about fixed assets
  • Reconcile and prepare monthly sales tax report
  • Record Foundation donations and enter invoices
  • Review W-9s for Midland College and the Midland College Foundation
  • Prepare, file, and print 1099s annually for Midland College and Midland College Foundation
  • Prepare interdepartmental charges for photocopies, media charges, and supplies
  • Prepare unclaimed property reports and maintain a subsidiary of unclaimed checks
  • Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts
  • Maintain Foundation accounts under the direction of the Director of Accounting and Associate Director of Accounting
  • Assign copy codes
  • Print Accounts Payable, Student Refund, and Midland College Foundation checks
  • Prepare daily cash balance report and review positive pay on a backup basis
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or a similar degree, with at least 9 hours in accounting
  • Alternatively, 30 hours of college credit with at least 3 hours in accounting and a minimum of two years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or banking with complex reconciliation experience
  • Computer literacy to include proficiency with Microsoft Excel
  • 10-key by touch

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • Typical office 
  • Business Hours 
  • M-Th 8:00 a.m.- 5:00 p.m. F 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. 
    • summer M-Th 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 pm 
  • Periodic evening and weekend hours during peak periods (e.g., open enrollment, payroll)  
  • Occasional travel (less than 10%)

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally

Salary Range: $61,774 - $62,700
