Malaga, WA Full-time | Max-Term until 30 June 2027 (with possibility of extension or permanency) SCHADS Level 4

When emergencies unfold across Western Australia, The Salvation Army Emergency Services team is there to offer comfort, care and practical support to first responders and affected communities. This role is central to ensuring our catering operations are ready to deploy at a moment’s notice, helping deliver nourishing meals, refreshments and a sense of calm during critical incidents. It is a hands-on leadership role that keeps our equipment, resources and volunteer teams prepared, making a genuine difference when people need it most. 

About the role 

Based at our Malaga depot, the Team Leader supports the coordination and delivery of emergency catering services across Western Australia. You will work closely with the Response Coordinator WA and other Team Leaders to ensure our mobile kitchens, supplies and equipment are operationally ready, and you will lead volunteers during both routine depot activities and live emergency deployments. 

During incidents, you will liaise with DFES and the Incident Management Team, nominate meal numbers and service arrangements, assist with food preparation and serving, and ensure fuel, water and supplies remain stocked. You will also support the cleaning, pack-down and overhaul of equipment after each response to maintain readiness for future deployments. 

In the depot, you will oversee weekly cleaning tasks, guide volunteers, prepare snack packs and refreshments, assist with kitchen duties, and ensure all equipment meets TSA’s Food Safety Plan requirements. You will also contribute to volunteer recruitment activities across metro and regional WA, helping grow and support our SAES volunteer community. 

This full-time position is a maximum-term contract until 30 June 2027, with the possibility of extension or permanency. It sits within the Emergency Services team and reports to the Response Coordinator WA. Pay is in accordance with a SCHADS Level 4. 

How you will make an impact 

• Coordinate on-site catering operations during emergencies, including meal planning and service arrangements 

• Liaise with DFES and Incident Management Team personnel during live responses 

• Support volunteers with clear direction, safety guidance and hands-on teamwork 

• Maintain operational readiness of depot equipment, supplies and mobile kitchens 

• Assist with food preparation, serving and emergency supply purchasing 

• Complete required paperwork and update the Noggin Incident Management Database 

• Build relationships with local governments and participate in emergency management committees 

• Contribute to national policy development and continuous improvement initiatives 

• Support the SAES Recovery Programme when requested 

What you will bring 

• Experience in operational emergency or disaster services (desirable) 

• Experience in volunteer engagement or management 

• Food handling experience 

• Food Safety Supervisor Certificate or ability to obtain 

• Senior First Aid Certificate or ability to obtain 

• Medium or Heavy Rigid Driver’s Licence is desirable or ability to obtain 

• Strong initiative, motivation and self-management 

• Ability to collaborate effectively and contribute to a positive team spirit 

• Constructive leadership skills to guide, support and empower volunteers 

• Accountability in managing resources, budgets and compliance requirements 

• Commitment to continuous improvement and innovation
