Help protect food and water supplies through preventative medicine and environmental health services in Balad, Iraq.

At International SOS Government Medical Services, you'll support healthcare programs that improve patient care and operational readiness across the U.S. and internationally. In this role, you’ll work with department managers and supervisors to deliver the program’s preventative medicine plan. Your responsibilities will span food service, water purification, potable water, and ice plant operations, combining inspections and records review with disease prevention and environmental health activities.

Position Title: Preventative Medicine Specialist or Technician
Assignment Location: Onsite in Balad, Iraq; relocation required.
Work Environment: Work is normally performed in a deployed work environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide food and water safety support and subject matter expertise for the dining facility, retail concession restaurants and stores, reverse osmosis water purification unit, potable water operations, and ice plant operations.
  • Evaluate sanitation practices and preventative hygiene measures for dining facility customers and workers. Inspect storage areas and food packaging, and inspect or review food and water deliveries.
  • Review water test results and collaborate on activities to prevent foodborne and waterborne illnesses. The prime contractor is responsible for testing water samples.
  • Work with the prime contractor, as needed, on disease surveillance, vector control, waste management, environmental health concerns, and infectious disease outbreak identification and mitigation.
  • Support preventative medicine inspection schedules and review department records supporting program-referenced medical technical bulletin requirements and the prevention of foodborne and waterborne illnesses.
  • Complete required organizational and client-specified compliance education associated with Joint Commission Healthcare Staffing Services certification or other regulatory bodies.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience in preventative medicine, including food and water safety practices.
  • Education or training equivalent to Preventative Specialist, Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 68S, or an international equivalent.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English.

Assignment and Physical Requirements

  • Obtain medical clearance and maintain current immunizations.
  • Possess a valid passport from your country of record before relocation and maintain a current passport throughout your stay in Balad.
  • Be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods. Work may also require bending, stooping, and lifting up to 15 pounds.
