Job Summary:
The Cook prepares meals and snacks using roasting, grilling, steaming, boiling, and baking methods. All food preparation must comply with established guidelines, including Canada’s Food Guide, and meet each client’s dietary needs. The Cook also keeps food preparation areas clean and sanitized in accordance with applicable standards

Reports To:Â Residence Care ManagerÂ
Key Duties and Responsibilities:Â
- Develops breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack menu plan in accordance with guidelines such asCanada’s Food Guide and relevant dietary restrictions and needs of the clientsÂ
- Purchases and orders food items necessary for the preparation of mealsÂ
- Maintains and purchases equipment necessary for the preparation of mealsÂ
- Maintains an inventory of food or other related itemsÂ
- Ensures that purchases are within approved budget limitsÂ
- FollowsFood Safe practices when storing and preparing foodÂ
- Cleans and sanitizes food preparation areas in accordance to sanitation requirementsÂ
- Prepares and cooks meals and snacksÂ
- Reviews the residence’s meal preparation needs and approach
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Residence Care Manager
Education, Training and Experience:Â
- Grade 10 completion
- Completion of a recognized institutional or residential cooking program, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- FoodSafe certification
- At least one year of recent, relevant experience
- Experience with multicultural clients and international cooking methods
Job Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to operate equipment related to preparing and cooking foodÂ
- Ability to carry out the duties of working in a kitchen settingÂ
- Ability to work independently and as a part of a teamÂ
- Ability to communicate in Chinese (any dialects) is considered an assetÂ
- Excellent verbal and oral communication skillsÂ
- Excellent interpersonal skillsÂ
- Excellent time management and organization skillsÂ
