NAND Device Engineer / Senior / Staff / Principal

At Micron Technology, we are transforming how the world uses information to enrich life. As aNAND Device Engineer in the Device Technology Development team, you will play a critical role in shaping next-generation NAND technologies by bridgingdevice physics, array operation, and product requirements.

This role offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection offundamental device behavior and real-system impact, contributing directly to cutting-edge memory products deployed globally.
 

What You Will Do:
 

Device Understanding & Innovation

  • Develop deep insight intoNAND cell physics, variability, and reliability mechanisms across technology nodes and architectures.
  • Analyzeelectrical characterization data from cell arrays and test structures to identify key limitations and improvement opportunities.
  • Translate device-level understanding intoactionable directions for cell design, process optimization, and array operation.
     

Array-Level Optimization & Co-Design

  • Drivedevice–array co-optimization, including threshold voltage (Vt) placement, distribution control, and sensing margins.
  • Design and refinealgorithms, trims, and waveform strategies to improve performance, yield, and reliability.
  • Contribute to solving complex system-level problems such asinterference, retention, endurance, and read/write margin trade-offs.
     

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely withprocess integration, cell design, product engineering, and test teams across global sites (e.g., Singapore, Boise, India).
  • Provide feedback onprocess experiments and splits, linking physical changes to electrical/system-level impact.
  • Participate incross-functional debug, yield ramp, and technology bring-up activities.
     

Technology Development Impact

  • Contribute tonext-generation NAND technology definition and scaling strategies.
  • Propose and prototypenovel device or algorithmic solutions to overcome emerging scaling challenges.
  • Drive data-driven decision making usingstatistics, modeling, and large dataset analysis.

AI & Data-Driven Engineering (Core to Role)

  • Applydata analytics, statistical modeling, and AI/ML techniques to extract insights from large-scale device and array datasets.
  • Develop or leverageautomation frameworks, data pipelines, and AI-assisted tools to accelerate analysis and decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to replace manual workflows withAI-driven solutions (e.g., anomaly detection, predictive modeling, automated debug).
  • Collaborate with data science and engineering teams to buildscalable AI-enabled workflows for device characterization and reliability analysis.
  • Contribute to the broader transformation towardAI-assisted engineering and smart manufacturing within Micron

Who You Are:
 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD inElectrical Engineering, Physics, or related field
  • Solid understanding ofsemiconductor devices and fundamentals
  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to interpretelectrical data and trends
  • Good communication skills and ability to work incollaborative, multi-site teams
     

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience or coursework innon-volatile memory (NAND preferred)
  • Understanding ofdevice variability, reliability mechanisms, and scaling challenges
  • Exposure todata analysis (Python, MATLAB, JMP, etc.) and statistics
  • Familiarity withmemory array operation, sensing schemes, or algorithm development
  • Demonstrated ability toconnect device behavior to system-level impact
  • Exposure tomachine learning, AI, or advanced data analytics technique
  • Ability to move beyond data → buildintuition and physical understanding
  • Experience buildingautomated analysis pipelines or engineering tools
  • Curiosity to ask“why does this behavior exist?”, not just “what happened?”
  • Ownership in driving problems end-to-end acrossdevice, process, and product
  • Comfort working inambiguous, evolving technology spaces
  • Strong bias towardimpact and execution over analysis alone
  • Mindset of leveragingAI and automation to improve engineering efficiency
