Project Description

Turn ideas into practical opportunities for Moroccan youth and develop their skills for a successful future.

Moroccan youth ages 15–34 make up more than one-third of the country’s population, yet many face barriers to employment, education, and meaningful opportunities to participate in their community. These education-to-work gaps are a result of unequal access to services, and limited local opportunities shape young people’s choices. Youth unemployment among ages 15–24 is 36% nationally and 47% in urban areas. While the Moroccan government supports numerous initiatives to address these challenges, the scale and complexity of the issues mean that additional external support and partnership are crucial to help expand opportunities, strengthen systems, and ensure young people can fully engage in Morocco’s social and economic life.

As a Youth Development Educator, you will work with community leaders and youth-service providers to build young people’s communication, leadership, employability, digital literacy, and life- and project-planning skills. You’ll help youth turn these skills into action through clubs, volunteerism, and community projects. By supporting young people and youth-focused organizations, you’ll create lasting opportunities for youth to pursue their goals, contribute to their communities, and play an active role in Morocco’s development.

Required Skills

Associate degree in any field and at least two years of full-time, post-high school work experience (from any combination of roles).
OR
Bachelor's degree in any field.
OR
High school diploma or GED and four years of full-time, post-high school work (from any combination of roles).

Living Conditions

Volunteers may be placed in rural, semi-urban, or urban communities across 8 of the 12 regions of Morocco, including Tanger Tetouan Al Hoceima, Oriental, Fes Meknes, Beni Mellal Khenifra, Dra Tafilalet, Marrakech Safi, and Souss Mass. Volunteers can expect to live an independent apartment or house within a 45-minute walk from the youth organization. Access to transportation, equipment, internet, and programming space will vary by site. Youth activities may be scheduled around school hours, exams, holidays, Ramadan, summer programs, and youth availability.

Job Highlights

Receive intensive language training in Darija, a widely spoken Moroccan Arabic dialect and an in-demand language.
Build practical expertise in positive youth development by applying community-based strategies and tools that will support any career.
Immerse yourself in the rich Moroccan culture and experience its legendary hospitality as you build lasting connections.

Facilitate interactive sessions that strengthen life skills, communicative English, confidence, teamwork, and leadership.
Develop youth’s employability and digital literacy skills, including job search, communication, and basic professional skills.
Create opportunities for youth to practice their new skills through volunteerism, service learning, and clubs.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as supporting creative arts or recreational sports clubs.

Training

As a Youth Development Educator, you will be trained on participatory youth development, activity and project planning, effective facilitation techniques, and life skills education. Peace Corps/Morocco will teach you Darija to help you comfortably live in and connect with the community. You may also receive language resources and learn Tamazight, Tashelhit, or Tarifit, depending on your site placement.

After 10 weeks of training, you will move to a rural, semi-urban, or urban community where you will collaborate with youth centers or other youth-serving organizations to assess the learning needs and develop solutions based on youth interests and available resources.
