Why Choose to participate in Work Experience with Red Cross?

Australian Red Cross recognises that work experience gives students the opportunity to gain specific skills and insight into the industry and workplace
Students will be able to learn and observe how the organisation operates
You’ll be helping Red Cross to support vulnerable people across Australia

The program

Red Cross Branch Shops plays a vital role in supporting the organisation’s humanitarian work. Through the sale of donated clothing, accessories, and homewares, Branch Shops help raise essential funds that contribute directly to Red Cross programs and services. The program provides valuable opportunities for work experience, allowing participants to develop practical skills in customer service, retail operations, teamwork, and community engagement.

The opportunity

The Branch Shop provides a valuable opportunity to gain hands‑on work experience in a real retail and community environment. Participants develop practical skills in customer service, communication, teamwork, and time management while learning how a community‑based shop operates. Working alongside volunteers and customers also helps you to understand the importance of positive engagement, responsibility, and community service.

Red Cross will ensure you have training, ongoing support and access to other opportunities within the world’s largest humanitarian network.

The impact

During your work experience, you will have the opportunity to learn about and observe how Branch Shops operate, as well as understand the important role and value Red Cross Branch Shops provide to the community.
