HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT:

Varsity Brands is building amodern, unified digital platform that powers the full experience of sport and spirit,enabling seamless workflows across product configuration, ordering, fulfillment, and customer engagement. This platform is built onscalable, API-driven services and shared platform capabilitiesthat support reusable solutions across the enterprise. 

TheSoftware Engineer II (SE II) role is afully productive, professional engineerresponsible for designing, building, and delivering software solutions withindependent ownership and execution accountability. This role contributes directly to platform development by buildingbackend services, APIs, and system components that support scalable, high-performing digital experiences.

• Deliversscalable services and features that power Varsity Brands’ digital platform 

• Improvesengineering velocity and system reliability through high-quality development practices 

• Contributes toplatform consistency, reuse, and performance across engineering teams 

• Supports the transition toscalable, API-driven services and shared platform capabilities 

• Drives adoption of shared platform capabilities throughconsistent, reusable service development 

WHAT YOU WILL DO:  

• Design, develop, andmaintain backend services and APIs aligned to platform architecture 

• Ownend-to-end delivery of features, from design through deployment and support 

• Troubleshoot and resolveproduction issues,identifying root causes and implementing solutions 

• Applytesting, performance optimization, and secure coding practices 

• Contribute toCI/CD pipelines, monitoring, and system reliability improvements 

• Collaborate withProduct, Design, QA, and other engineering teams to deliver solutions 

• Participate intechnical design discussionsand contribute to solution approaches 

• Provideguidance and mentorship to junior engineers (including SE I) 

• Designcomponents and services within established architecture, makingindependent technical decisions within defined patterns

QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

The ideal candidate willdemonstrate the following capabilities: 

Technical Knowledge 

• Strong understanding ofbackend systems and service-based architecture 

• Working knowledge ofcloud environments and distributed systems 

• Understanding ofsystem design principles and data modeling 

Technical Skills 

• Proficiency inJava and backend development frameworks 

• Ability to: 

• Design and build RESTful APIs 

• Optimize system performance and scalability 

• Implement testing strategies and debugging techniques 

• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and production systems

• Solvesmoderately complex technical problems independently

Education, Certification and Experience 

Required: 

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience 

• 2-5+ years of professional software engineering experience
