Job Description
Would you like to help our team succeed in creating a robust and repeatable solvent welding process for ABS?Â
Bring your curiosity for polymers, solvents and laboratory experimentation to help identify, test and optimize safe, repeatable and high-quality solvent welding solutions for ABS at the LEGO Group.Â
Core Responsibilities Â
- Help us research and screen candidate solvents and solvent blends for welding ABS, considering polymer interaction, evaporation rate and practical handling.Â
- Assist in planning and executing structured laboratory experiments to evaluate key solvent welding variables using Design of Experiments (DoE) principles where appropriate.Â
- Correlate bond performance with solvent choice and process conditions to help define a practical and repeatable process window.Â
- Link in with Product Safety (PS) and Environment, Health and Safety (EHS) departments.Â
- Document test methods, experimental results, conclusions and recommendations in a clear and structured way.Â
- Document and communicate theoretical chemical background behind empirical observations Â
Play your part in our team succeedingÂ
You will join R&D Processing in our brand-new engineering campus in Billund and contribute to a development project focused on solvent welding assembly of ABS parts. Working with experienced colleagues across Materials, Quality, Element Development, Product Safety and EHS. Â
Do you have what it takes?Â
- Currently studying Polymer Science, Materials Science, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or a closely related field. Â
- Enrolled in a relevant bachelor or master programme with an interest in applying academic knowledge through laboratory-based development work. Â
- Basic understanding of polymer-solvent interactions and an interest in polymers, materials or joining processes. Â
- Hands-on interest in planning and carrying out laboratory experiments. Â
- Ability to analyse data and draw clear, evidence-based conclusions. Â
- Strong documentation skills and the ability to communicate methods, results and recommendations clearly. Â
- Structured, curious and able to work both independently and collaboratively. Â
Nice tohave
- Awareness of laboratory safety, chemical handling and EHS considerations. Â
- Experience with microscopy, cross-section preparation or other materials characterization methods. Â
- Familiarity with mechanical testing methods for bonded or welded joints. Â
- Experience with Design of Experiments (DoE) or statistical analysis, including advanced or dynamic DoE approaches.Â
- Specific knowledge of ABS and solvent-based polymer joining. Â
