About the Role:   

AsaSurfaceMachinist, you willperform various tasks related tooperating and maintainingmachinery to produce precision metal parts and instruments. TheSurfaceMachinistwill work closely withsupervisors andother team members tomaintain a safework environment while adhering to company policies and procedures. 

Responsibilities:    

• Operatingvarious equipment such as lathes, milling machines, grinders, CNC machines,torches and welders ofvarious types 

• Working in confined spaces and heights potentiallymore than 100’ from the ground (with harness) 

• Cleaning,shoveling, andutilizing high pressure hose tomaintain a safe workarea. 

• Will berequired tooperate various handtools andmachinery. 

• Adhere to all safety procedures and regulations. 

• Preserves a safe and clean work environment by keepingtrashpicked upand practicing good housekeeping standards in work areas. 

• May be required to operate other equipmenton a temporary basis.  

• Other duties that may be assigned bysupervisor. 

Who You are:   

• Must havea high school diploma orequivalent. 

• Must be a certified Alabama Hoist Operator 

• Must passhydraulic and welding abilities test administered by WMC training center 

• Must be able to readand interpret blueprints and precision measuring tools such as calipers,micrometers and various gauges to ensure parts meet specifications. 

• Maintain good punctuality andattendance. 

• Ability to work safely and effectively in amining environment. 

• Must be able to communicate effectively with other team members and supervisors. 

• Goodproblem-solving skills and attention to detail 

• Good organizational, time management and multitasking skills. 

Environment and Safety   

• Ensure adherence to State, Federal and Company workplace policies and standard work procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.   

• Maintaina high level ofSafety performance through effective communication, monitoring, and revision of standard work procedures.   

• Identify and report safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries, and property damage at the workplace.   

• Attend andparticipatein all scheduled safety meetings and training.   

• Ensure adherence to environmental policy, work standards, management plans and regulatory obligations and requirements.   

Physical Requirements–Mining Operations:  

• Must be able to stand forlong periods of time on uneven, rocky surfaces.    

• Must be able to sit for up to 4 hours tooperate equipment or vehicles.    

• Must be able to walk for up to 4 hours at a time.    

• Will need to walk through differentareas of thework area with different amounts of clearance and headroom.    

• Walking ability will be based on SCSR emergency evacuation planrequired and approved by MSHA.   

• Must be able to wear the required protective footwear, hearing and eye protection, and other personal protective equipment as required by Company and MSHA.    

• Must be able to bend or stoop for a full work period because ofvarying work heights.    

• Must be able to climb up and down stairs/steps and climb on and off equipment and ladders.   

• Must be able to do repetitive hand and wrist motions (push, pull, twist, handle), and have quick reflex movements of the arms and legs as well as good hand to eye coordination.   

• Must be able to lift 25 to 50 poundsfrequently and occasionally lift items weighing up to 75 pounds.   

• Must be able to work in extreme conditions, including but not limited to changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise from low to high decibels, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
