The Victoria Police Department is seekingConstable applicationsfor theCrime Reduction Unit (CRU). CRU is designed to support the City of Victoria's Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan andassistthe PatrolDivision in efforts by proactively addressing street-level crime and disorder issues. Theunits mandate focuses onidentifying, disrupting, and reducing low to mid-level property crime,drug trafficking,and chronic offender activity that negativelyimpacts community safety. Through intelligence-led policing, targeted enforcement, and collaborative partnerships, CRU memberswillwork to reduce crime, support Patrol operations, and improve public confidence throughout the City of Victoria.

Job Description: 

• Primarily, a plain clothes assignment focused on proactive enforcement, intelligence-led policing, and offender management initiatives. 
• The deployment will be in a covert and/or overt capacity depending on evolving target or project goals. 
• Operational staffing and deployment schedules, including a rotating 11.43 hour dayshift/afternoon pattern that encompass weekday and weekend deployments (same as GIS schedule):
  

                 Mon-Thu 0700-1825 (4 days)

                 5 days off

                 Wed-Sun 1035-2200 (5 days)

                 4 days off

                 Fri-Tue 0700-1825 (5 days)

                 5 days off

                 Repeat (starting with afternoons)      

• Hours of work will vary in order to respond to crime trends. (Schedule changes will be made with reasonable notice when possible) 
• Support Patrol Division by addressing street-level crime trends, chronic offender activity, and emerging community safety issues

• Conduct proactive enforcement initiatives targeting low to mid-level drug trafficking, property crime,andprolific offenders. 

• Utilize intelligence-led policing strategies toidentify,monitor, and disrupt criminal activity 

• Conduct surveillance, targeted enforcement operations, and offender-focused investigations 

• Work collaboratively with Patrol, Investigative Services, Community Services Division, and external law enforcement partners 

• Develop andmaintain relationships with community partners, businesses, and service providers to support crime reduction objectives 

• Support crime prevention initiatives and community safety strategies through education, enforcement, and partnership-based approaches 

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Must be a motivated self-starter anddemonstrate strong teamwork skills 

• Demonstrated ability to conduct proactive policing, surveillance, and enforcement activities 

• Experience investigating property crime, drug offences, and prolific offender activity 

• Demonstrated ability to gather, assess, andutilize intelligence information including confidential source handling 

• Well-developed communication, conflict resolution, crisis intervention, and de-escalation skills 

• Ability to build productive relationships with community partners, businesses, and other police units 

• Working knowledge of the Criminal Code of Canada, Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and applicable Provincial Statutes 

• Experience preparing judicial authorizations, disclosure packages, and comprehensive investigative reports is considered an asset
