About Velsera
Medicine moves too slow. At Velsera, we are changing that.
Velsera was formed in 2023 through the shared vision of Seven Bridges and Pierian, with a mission to accelerate the discovery, development, and delivery of life-changing insights.
Velsera provides software and professional services for:
- AI-powered multimodal data harmonization and analytics for drug discovery and development
- IVD development, validation, and regulatory approval
- Clinical NGS interpretation, reporting, and adoption
With our headquarters in Boston, MA, we are growing and expanding our teams located in different countries!
About the roleĀ
VelseraĀ builds andĀ operatesĀ precision medicine software across the Seven Bridges Platform (SBP), Clinical Genomics Workspace (CGW), andĀ FastFinder. Our teams support genomic researchers, clinical labs, and pharma customersāoften in highly regulated environments.Ā
In this role,Ā youāllĀ build the internal AI platform that helps engineers ship andĀ operateĀ software faster and more reliably: AI-assisted developer workflows (coding, testing, review, docs) and AI-assisted operations (triage, automation, and self-healing patterns).Ā YouāllĀ partner closely with our Cloud Architect (who owns observability signal quality) and report to the CTO.Ā
This is a shared platform role serving multiple engineering teamsānot an embedded role onĀ a single productĀ team.Ā
What will you do?
YouāllĀ deliver practical AI capabilities on top of our existing engineering and operations foundation (CI/CD, code quality, and observability) with strong guardrails for HIPAA/GxPĀ and FedRAMP-boundary work.Ā
Tech environment (varies by team):Ā Java, Python, Go, TypeScript; AWS;Ā GitLab/Jenkins/GitLab CI; SonarQube; Prometheus + ELK and AWS-native monitoring.Ā
- Build andĀ operateĀ an internal AI platform for developer workflows: codeĀ assistance, PR review support, test generation, documentation, and automation that fits how ourĀ teamsĀ work.Ā
- Integrate AI capabilities into the toolchain (CI/CD, code quality, repos) and make adoption easy through templates, examples, and self-service patterns.Ā
- Implement AI quality gates (policy checks, confidence thresholds, regression tests, secure-by-default configs) so AI-generated changes cannot be merged/released unless they meet standards.Ā
- Design for regulated environments: implement logging/auditability, access controls, and data-handling guardrails for HIPAA/GxPĀ work.Ā
- Maintain a FedRAMP-boundary-safe approach for SBP Federal work (separation whereĀ required; evaluate compliant alternatives; prevent prohibited tooling/data flows).Ā
- Partner with engineering leads and security/compliance to define and roll out internal standards for responsible AI use (including review practices and acceptable-use guidance).Ā
- Build AI-assisted operations on top of existing observability signals: anomaly detection, incident triage support, runbook-driven automation, and self-healing patterns to reduce MTTR.Ā
- Measure impact (adoption, cycle time, incident metrics), iterate quickly, and communicate progress clearly to engineering leadership.Ā
What do you bring to the table?
- 5+ years in software engineering, platform engineering,Ā DevEx, or SRE/operations engineering, with recent hands-on work applying LLMs/AI to real workflows.Ā
- Experience building or productionizing AI-assisted developer tooling (e.g., code reviewĀ assistance, test generation, documentation, workflow automation)ānot just evaluating off-the-shelf tools.Ā
- Experience building andĀ operatingĀ automated/semi-automated agent workflows that execute scoped engineering taskĀ
- Experience building AI-assisted operations/observability capabilities (anomaly detection, intelligent alerting, triage automation, runbook automation) on top of existing monitoring stacks.Ā
- Strong coding skills in Python plus one of Java or TypeScript.Ā
- ComfortĀ operatingĀ in regulated environments and designing guardrails (HIPAA,Ā GxP, FedRAMP, or similar), including boundary/tenant separation and auditability.Ā
- Clear written and verbal communication; able to align engineers, security/compliance, and leadership.Ā
PreferredĀ
- Experience with FedRAMP boundaries andĀ evaluatingĀ FedRAMP-authorized tooling alternatives.Ā
- Experience integrating deeply with CI/CD and developer toolchains (GitHub/Jenkins/GitLab CI, SonarQube,Ā CodeBuild, etc.).Ā
- Prior platform/DevExĀ experience building internal products where engineers are the customers.Ā
- Experience in regulated software domains (clinical, federal, financial, or similar).Ā
- Familiarity with AWS-native ops tooling (CloudWatch, DevOps Guru) and workflow/orchestration tools.Ā
Success in this role looks like measurable improvements in engineering throughput and operational outcomes (e.g., faster reviews, more reliable releases, reduced alert fatigue, lower MTTR) while meeting compliance requirements. If you like building internal platforms that teams rely on every dayāand you can balance speed with strong guardrailsāweādĀ like to talk.
