Title: Qualitative UX Researcher
Duration: 12+ Months

Location:Role can be in San Francisco or San Jose. Kirkland is a 3rd option, but prefers San Fran or San Jose.
Pay: $40 - $45/hr on W2

Overview:
We operate across software, hardware, platform, product, partner, for multiple automotive programs all while maintaining core focus on user value and user safety. You will work within our vendor research team, focusing on providing ongoing efficient research support to our product teams to help iterate and refine concepts to launch and land high-quality and high-value experiences for our users. You will draw from both qualitative and quantitative skillsets and experience. Our mission is to conduct highly-impactful research to define the future of the automotive technology experience so that drivers and passengers have great experiences while also minimizing driving attentional demands. We are looking for individuals who have strong communication and collaboration skills, are diligent, detail-oriented, and work independently on tactical workstreams.

Overall Responsibilities:
  • User study moderation
  • Design and administer quantitative surveys
  • Literature reviews
  • Lab setup & management
  • Liaise with participant recruiting teams and participant onboarding
  • Note taking and data capture
  • Highlight-video creation
  • Qualitative data analysis/synthesis
  • User testing analyses
  • Data visualization
  • Create visually attractive and compelling slide decks to communicate research findings and recommendations
  • Present research findings to diverse audiences through written and oral communications.

Top 3 Daily Responsibilities:
  • Planning research activities: developing and executing product inclusion research strategy, scoping methods, preparing test materials, recruiting participants, etc.
  • Executing studies: wide variety of methods leveraging both qual and quant skill sets, including interviews, surveys, concept evaluations, literature reviews, data coding, etc.
  • Analyzing, Reporting, Communications: performing qualitative and quantitative analyses, and preparing reports on insights and recommendations for xfn stakeholders, and clearly communicating with xfn stakeholders to guide and influence product development environments.

Required Skills:
  • M.A./M.S. (Completed) in either Experimental Psychology, Design Research, Human Factors, Social Sciences, Human-Computer Interaction (HCI), Cognitive Science, etc), or other related fields or demonstrable equivalent practical experience.
  • 3-7 years of relevant applied experience conducting user research.
  • Solid experience with at least two or more of the following methods: usability studies, concept evaluations, competitive evaluations, literature reviews, diary studies, user interviews, surveys.
  • Strong ability to manage, synthesize, and analyze both quantitative and qualitative datasets.
  • Ability to create effective visualizations (charts, plots, etc) as needed to best communicate data using software comfortable with (examples: Google Sheets, R, Python, etc).
  • Technical aptitude, familiarity with basic graphic and video editing tools preferred.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience creating visually polished, engaging and persuasive slide decks to communicate research findings
  • Can prioritize time between multiple projects, and be flexible by adapting to changing schedules and different projects.

Nice to have Skills (not required):
  • Quantitative research skills and proficiency with statistical analysis in R for processing, analyzing and visualizing data.
  • Automotive research experience (on-road, simulators, eye-tracking, occlusion, etc.)
  • Experience in a product development environment conducting various types of research activities in a fast-paced environment.
