What’s the role?Â
Shell Canada is seeking a Remediation Project Manager also known as Program Manager to join its Soil and Groundwater Solutions team (SGWS). The SGWS Program Manager is responsible for safely managing environmental liabilities, delivering SGWS site assessment, remediation and monitoring projects as part of sustainable risk management program within the assignment area.  The portfolio may include delivering SGWS projects for multiple Lines of Business (LoBs) (i.e., Post Closing Rights and Obligations, Mobility, Chemicals, Products, Trading & Supply, Lubricants, etc.) across various western Canadian provinces.  This role can work virtually, the team member will ideally reside in Alberta, but other western Canadian provinces will be considered. Â
What you’ll be doingÂ
Accountabilities:Â
- Drive a Health Safety, Security and Environment (HSSE) performance culture with SGWS consultants and their subcontractors using Learner Mindset, Human Performance, and other approaches to ensure safe project deliveryÂ
- Manage a high volume portfolio of projects across multiple western Canadian provinces ranging from initial environmental site assessment through remedial action planning, implementation, monitoring, and regulatory closureÂ
- Develop risk management strategies for reducing soil and groundwater liability in a portfolio across multiple LoBs (i.e., Post Closing Rights and Obligations, Mobility, Chemicals, Products, Trading & Supply, Lubricants, etc.), including highly complex projects, due diligence, and sites in litigationÂ
- The portfolio may also include hydrocarbon well plug and abandonment projects, experience with these types of projects would be an assetÂ
- Lead and implement countrywide HSSE initiatives and campaigns as lead focal pointÂ
- Develop and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders for applicable LoBs, developing a deep understanding of business drivers to develop appropriate, sustainable risk management strategiesÂ
- Manage financial approvals and spend with environmental consultants to ensure compliance with financial authorizationsÂ
- Coordinate provincial advocacy efforts to influence regulations, support development and approval of sustainable risk-based approachesÂ

What you bringÂ
- The candidate must have legal authorization to work in the Canada on a full-time basisÂ
- Engineering/Science Degree, preferably in geology/hydrogeology/engineering discipline.  A professional designation in your discipline would be an asset. Â
- 6 or more years of experience in environmental project management, site assessment, remediation, and risk and liability management, managing scope, schedule, cost, safety for soil and groundwater projects in western CanadaÂ
- Experience working across multiple western Canadian regulatory jurisdictions, understanding soil and groundwater regulations, establishing credibility and trusted working relationships with soil and groundwater regulators to drive sustainable, risk-based approaches in order to move sites to closure.Â
- Experience with HSSE leadership, understanding of HSSE risks and mitigations (processes, procedures, behaviors) specifically related project field execution to ensure safe delivery of SGWS projectsÂ
- Proven record of contract management experience, managing / improving contractor performance on complex projectsÂ
- Skilled at Business Partnering and negotiation/advocacy with external stakeholders (e.g., regulators)Â
- It would be an additional asset if the candidate has an understanding at a project manager level of hydrocarbon well Plug & Abandonment (P&A) requirements across Western CanadaÂ
- Negotiation and stakeholder engagement skillsÂ
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to challenge and ability to build internal and external relationships based on trust and to integrate across multiple businesses and functionsÂ
- Fluency in English with excellent oral and written communication skillsÂ

The base salary range for this position is $106,000 - $159,000 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.Â
