Consultant Opportunity - Supporting the implementation of the IKI/CREAF project

Duration: The consultancy assignment will be for a period of six months, running from October 15th 2026 to April, 15th 2027.

BirdLife International is the world's largest partnership dedicated to nature conservation, with a particular focus on birds, their habitats, and the human communities that depend on them. Through a network of more than 125 partner organizations operating in over 120 countries, BirdLife implements programmes and initiatives aimed at conserving biodiversity and promoting the sustainable management of natural resources.

As part of the IKI/CREAF project, the West Africa Sub-Regional Office wishes to recruit a consultant to provide technical support for the implementation of the conservation activities outlined below under the East Atlantic Flyway Initiative. The consultant will work closely with national partners, public institutions and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the effective and coherent implementation of interventions.

EXPECTED DELIVERABLES:

• Support the implementation of the IKI/CREAF project activities detailed in the table of activities, deliverables and deadlines;

• Contribute to capacity building in bird monitoring, governance and community management;

• Support the analysis of the East Atlantic Flyway environmental form and the threats presented in national waterbird census reports;

• Contribute to the celebration of World Migratory Bird Day, the development of village waste management plans, and the integration of climate change into the national action plans for the Lesser Flamingo and the Grey Crowned Crane;

• Contribute to the implementation of activities aimed at improving livelihoods in key IKI/CREAF project sites.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

• University degree in environmental sciences, biological sciences, or an equivalent qualification.

• Good command of Microsoft Excel; experience in database management would be an asset.

• Excellent command of French, both written and spoken, and a good basic knowledge of English.

• Good understanding of field-based conservation practices.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Initiative, practical approach, motivation, and ability to work independently.

• Good knowledge of conservation activities and programmes in West Africa.
