Job Overview

This position is responsible for managing workplace accommodation requests under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and company policies. This role leads the interactive process, partners with employees, managers, healthcare providers, Occupational Health, and Employee/Labor Relations, and provides expert guidance on reasonable accommodations. This position also monitors trends, recommends policy updates, and trains leaders on ADA compliance and best practices. This position must maintain working knowledge and ability to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), ADAAA, HIPAA, GINA, FMLA, MAPFML, and other regulations in assigned area.

Job Description

Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related fieldAND Three (3) years of Human Resources or relevant Business experiencewith at least two (2) years of ADA experienceOR;
Associate’s degree in a related fieldAND Five (5) years of Human Resources or relevant business experiencewith at least two (2) years of ADA experienceOR;
High School Diploma or equivalentAND Seven (7) years of Human Resources or relevant business experiencewith at least two (2) years of ADA experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

1. Experience with Workday.

2. Experience with UKG Timekeeping.

3. Experience with ADA request management technology (i.e. Pulpstream, Absensesoft, etc.).

4. Experience with Massachusetts Paid Family and Medical Leave (MA PFML).
 

Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities listed below are intended to describe the general nature of work and are not intended to be an all-inclusive list.  Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

1. Manages accommodation requests under the ADA from intake through resolution, including engaging in the interactive process with employees, performing undue hardship analyses, and identifying alternative accommodations when appropriate, while ensuring compliance with legal requirements and company policies.

2. Uses technology to track and document ADA accommodations and related leave cases to promote accuracy and compliance.

3. Collaborates with employees, managers, and healthcare providers to identify and evaluate reasonable accommodations.

4. Addresses employee/labor relations issues related to leave and accommodations, ensuring fair treatment consistency, and timely resolution.

5. Provides training to managers and HR partners on ADA compliance, the interactive process, and best practices for handling accommodation requests.

6. Monitors trends in ADA-related cases and recommend policy or process updates to improve compliance and employee experience.

7. Serves as a liaison between employees and management to resolve disputes related to leave, accommodations, or workplace restrictions.

8.  Partners with Legal, HR, and Safety to ensure accommodations are feasible, compliant, and aligned with organizational needs.

9. Conducts routine environmental and policy audits to maintain compliance with ADA.

10. Monitor and track all accommodation requests and maintain information systems to track and report on accommodation trends and workflows.

11. May serve as a back up to other department needs in the event of out of office team members, as appropriate based on knowledge and workload.

Physical Requirements:

1. Frequent sitting, occasional standing & walking, and lifting of 5-10 lbs.  

2. Mental requirements will be intense at times with involvement in many concurrent multi-faceted projects.

3. Requires manual dexterity using fine hand manipulation to operate a computer keyboard or related equipment

4. Requires ability to see computer screen, monitoring equipment and reports.

9. Ability to work independently and regularly exercise discretion.

10. Organized, detail oriented and to manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment.

11. High level of confidentiality and ability to effectively communicate with employees at all levels.

12. Ability to diagnose a problem and lead correction efforts through effective communication and efficient execution.

13. Possess a strong sense of urgency as part of the daily work style.

14. Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Teams, and Excel.

Job Profile Summary

​This role focuses on supporting the design, development, and implementation of human resource programs and policies, including recruitment, training and development, compensation and benefits, mobility, talent acquisition, diversity, talent management & organization development and employee/labor relations. In addition, this role focuses on performing the following leave of absence duties: Designs, implements, and administers Tufts Medicine’s leave of absence programs. Responsibilities also include program design, communications, vendor partnerships, and managing solutions that align with Tufts Medicine's strategies to engage and retain talent. This role is also accountable for working collaboratively with leaders, legal, and key stakeholders to ensure compliance with all regulatory aspects of leave of absence and related policies. A professional individual contributor role that may direct the work of other lower level professionals or manage processes and programs.   The majority of time is spent overseeing the design, implementation or delivery of processes, programs and policies using specialized knowledge and skills typically acquired through advanced education. A senior level role that requires advanced knowledge of job area typically obtained through advanced education and work experience.  Typically responsible for: managing projects / processes, working independently with limited supervision, coaching and reviewing the work of lower level professionals, resolving difficult and sometimes complex problems.
