Join us as aHead of Investment Tax, where you’ll lead a high-performing team delivering strategic tax advice across a global investment portfolio, helping maximise post-tax outcomes for more than 2 million members. Working closely with senior investment leaders, you'll shape investment decisions, tax governance and emerging tax strategy across diverse asset classes and international markets.
Key Accountabilities:
- Lead the Investment Tax team with overall responsibility for proactively managing and advising on investment tax matters across all asset classes including tax structuring, tax due diligence, supporting financial modelling in relation to tax impacts, ensuring appropriate legal documentation.
- Work with Heads of Asset Classes analysing and reviewing investment opportunities and undertaking appropriate tax due diligence within Rest’s tax risk appetite.
- Review the tax structures and attributes of existing assets to ensure that the tax setting remains appropriate.
- Work collaboratively with the Group Tax function to ensure that investments are onboarded into the annual compliance process.
- Monitor global tax law change and proactively update the investment tax on the impact to the portfolio. Supporting the General Manager, Tax with reporting tax matters to the Board and Board Committees.
- Support the General Manger, Tax with global regulator engagement, including audit activities and well as the drafting of submissions on law change.
- Provide support to the Investment Operations and Unit Pricing teams and uplifting the understanding of investment tax impacts on unit pricing.
- Monitor and update the Investments Teams of tax updates, rulings, developments applicable to the Fund and ensuring implications for the Fund are understood.
- Enhance investment tax governance including procedures, position papers, sign offs and checklists.
- Manage key external tax advisory relationships with the General Manager, Tax.
- Develop strong relationships with investment manager Tax teams.
- Contribute to the effective implementation of Rest’s tax technology roadmap, managing the use of AI, automation, tax technology solutions and platforms.
- Chartered Tax Advisor or Master of Tax.
- CPA / CA ANZ or LLB.
- Demonstrated experience in the provision of high-quality strategic investment related tax advice.
- Deep understanding of the superannuation industry and/or funds management industry investing highly regarded.
- Extensive experience with structuring of investments in a variety of asset classes both domestically and internationally.
- Extensive Excel modelling and strong numeric skills.
- High level research, financial modelling and analytical skills.
- Confident with negotiation of commercial outcomes and ability to engage with and influence stakeholders.
- Ability to lead a team to work effectively in a team environment and communicate complex matters simply and effectively.
- Fully aware of and proactively manage emerging risks and trends in tax law and the investment landscape.
- Proven ability to successfully manage projects within resource, time and financial constraints.
- Knowledge of US, UK and European tax is an advantage.
