What will you be doing!  

• Conducting research and development experiments.
• Fabricating and characterizing fuel materials under the Supervising Technician's direction.
• Performing and assisting with the installation, inspection, and modification of fuel fabrication and other experimental equipment.
• Ensuring that the equipment within the facility operates safely and efficiently in accordance with regulations and procedures.
• Commissioning new equipment and apparatus for fuel fabrication and characterization.
• Conducting research and development and compliance tests in accordance with work plans, procedures, and technical specifications.
• Assisting in developing work plans and procedures. 
• Solving technical problems involved with equipment and procedures.
• Performing independent inspections and tests. 
• Maintaining zone inventories of fissile materials.
• Recording observations and data in route sheets and logbooks.
• Participating in facility compliance activities.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.   

What we are looking for:  

• Education
  • Graduation from a recognized institute of advanced technology in a field relevant to the position, or equivalent formal education.OR
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent and normally has more than 3 years of pertinent experience or the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
• Experience
  • One to three years of relevant experience will be considered an asset.
  • Experience with basic chemistry laboratory techniques is an asset.
  • Experience with nuclear fuel handling and glovebox work is an asset.
  • Experience wearing a respirator is an asset.
  • Experience in a licensed nuclear facility is an asset.
  • Hands-on experience performing experiments is desirable.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency in laboratory practices and techniques, record-keeping, and organization skills.
  • Strong computer skills (including Word and Excel). 
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to maintain awareness of surroundings and adopt safe lab practices.
  • An aptitude for learning new skills, meeting deadlines, and achieving objectives and goals.
  • Ability to wear a respirator is required.
  • Ability to respond calmly and responsibly to emergency situations.
• Security clearance eligibility required:  
  • Level 2 Secret which hasa minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom . CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.” 
     

Working Conditions: 

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week. 
• This position is part of the USW 1568and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in their Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
• Hands-on work in a laboratory setting. 
• Work in moderate radiation hazard environments where PPE (Personal protective equipment) is required - must be able to wear a respirator.
