Respirator Technician

What will you be doing! 

• Performing routine and periodic maintenance, repair and inspection of respiratory protection and related components, under well-defined procedures.
• Producing and maintaining maintenance records and reports in accordance with Quality Assurance standards.
• Interacting with customers to produce results appropriate to their specific needs.
• Performing routine and periodic inspection and testing of breathing air components (e.g. headers), under well-defined procedures. 
• Performing surveillance and restocking tasks at respirator storage locations around the CRL (Chalk River Laboratories) site.
• Scheduling and conducting respirator fit testing using a variety of models and types of respirator configurations.
• Instructing employees on the proper use of respiratory protection.
• Performing daily quality control checks to ensure fit test equipment is operating properly, and maintaining performance records of these tests.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.   
   

What we are looking for:

• Education 
  • Graduation from a post-secondary institution, preferably in a field relating to occupational health and safety or industrial hygiene, and normally has six to eight years of pertinent technological experience. 
  • OR Graduation from secondary school with a minimum of ten years of pertinent experience 
  • OR the equivalent in experience, additional education and/or training.
• Experience 
  • Experience working in an electronics laboratory or electronics repair shop.
  • Experience in the care, maintenance and assembly of air purifying and/or supplied air respirators; and/or the fit testing of respirator protection.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently, conducting various tasks using a variety of instruments and techniques.
  • Ability to respond to challenging schedule demands in a fast-paced environment.
  • Attention to detail and accurate, legible data recording are essential.
  • Working knowledge at the intermediate level or better of MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Outlook is required.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required
  • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which hasa minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.” 
     

Working Conditions:

• Working schedule: Five (5) days per week, seven and a half (7.5) hours per day for a thirty-seven and a half (37.5) hour work week. 
• This position is part of theUSW 1568 Unionand is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the USW 1568 Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
• Auditory requirements to audibly hear indicators such as alarms, SCBA ring downs, air leaks, etc.
• Ability to wear respirator equipment and other PPE&C (e.g. latex or nitrile gloves, safety glasses).
