We are looking for a Technical Editor to work within the research organization, helping researchers produce documents that are well-argued, honest about their scope and limitations, and clear enough to be evaluated efficiently. The work goes beyond editing individual documents: you will also develop the standards and processes that help the research organization write more clearly and efficiently over time.
The right candidate enjoys working closely with researchers on technically demanding material and takes satisfaction in making complex arguments clearer and stronger.
Responsibilities
Edit research proposals, technical white papers, and internal reports for clarity, structure, and audience, preserving technical accuracy while improving readability
Help researchers make their strongest case for their ideas, including an honest assessment of their limitations
Develop and maintain editorial standards for the research organization, including style guidelines and documentation practices
Establish and streamline editorial workflows for drafting, revising, and submitting research documents
Lead writing clinics and coach research staff
Contribute to AI-assisted writing and editing tools
Requirements
Significant editing experience with technical or scientific material
Demonstrated ability to edit with a clear sense of purpose and audience
Exceptional command of grammar, style, structure, and argumentation
Experience developing or managing style guides, documentation practices, and editorial standards
Strong interpersonal and coaching skills, including the ability to explain editorial decisions in ways that make researchers more effective writers over time
Comfort working with quantitative subject matter
