The magazine is looking for an experienced sub-editor to take the lead on newsletter production.You will play a crucial role in maintaining the magazine's high editorial standards and ensure that all content across our growing batch of newsletters is accurate, engaging, and adheres to the publication’s tone and style. Your keen eye for detail and passion for excellence will be vital in upholding the magazine's reputation for clarity and precision.
Key Responsibilities
- Subediting, uploading and sending theMorning Press newsletter, which goes out every weekday at 7 a.m.,
- Working alongside the Daily Newsletter Editor onLunchtime Espresso, which goes out every weekday at 1 p.m.
- Editing our weekly newsletters, which include Reality Check, Ukraine in FocusandSpectator Life,and our monthly newsletter, The Take Away.
- Managing our team of four daily newsletter writers and liaising with other newsletter writers to refine and enhance content.
- Ensuring all content aligns withThe Spectator’s tone, style, and voice.
- Fact-checking to verify accuracy and authenticity of information.
- Adhering to tight deadlines while maintaining high editorial standards.
- Writing headlines, subheadings, and captions that capture the reader’s attention.
We’re looking for someone who has:
- Knowledge of The Spectator and what readers do (and don’t) expect from us.
- Exceptional command of English, both written and spoken.
- At least four years’ experience on the subbing desk of a national newspaper.
- Ability to spot errors and inconsistencies with precision.
- Strong organisational skills and ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency with editorial tools and software such as InDesign and Campaign Monitor.
- A keen interest in current affairs that goes beyond nine to five engagement.
- A well-developed sense of humour and sense of the absurd.
We will also consider applications for those who wish to work part-time to edit and send theMorning Pressnewsletter. There is also the chance to work from home if desired (please indicate your interest in this on application).Â
