JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics is seeking applicants for the part-time job ofResearchAssistant for the summer.Ā 

Job duties to include:Ā 

  • Working with large astronomical catalogs and imaging data sets from JWSTĀ 

  • Statistical analysisusing large samples of high-redshiftgalaxies, specifically with the two-point correlation function (2PCF).Ā 

  • Writing well-documentedstatisticalanalysis code in Python while producing publication-quality figures.Ā 

  • Interpreting observational resultsbycomparing withcutting-edge theories for galaxy formation and evolution.Ā 

Ā 

The selected candidate will be expected to attend weekly meetings throughout the summer to discuss their progress and next steps for the project. The selected candidate will be expected to create short presentations and written summaries to communicate their science results.Ā 

Schedule:Ā 

  • Expected hours will be approximately40 hours/week for5 weeks.Ā 

Compensation:Ā 

  • The starting rate for this job is $15/hour.Ā 

The selected candidate will report to Dr.Jakob Helton.Ā Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled.Ā
