Penn State Abingtonseeksengaging and dynamic candidate to filla newly created opening ofProfessional Math Tutor. This opening will workin the Chaiken Center forStudent Successtoprovidetutoring in Math (Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, Calculus, Statistics) to undergraduate universitystudents.Thetutorwill also develop workshops, structured academic initiatives, as well as other collaborative opportunities that engage faculty, student organizations, and other members of the campus community. The Professional Tutor will interact with faculty and staff to promote the services of the Chaiken Centerand to ensure that tutoring services align with the courseobjectives. The Professional Tutor willbe responsible formaintaining a record for each student tutored, e.g.,Starfish Outcome Notes,ClientReportForms,Satisfaction Surveys, etc.  

Job Duties

• Provides individual Math tutoring for students.
• Assigns practice exercises as needed. 
• Mentors students in completion and review of class assignments. 
• Assists students in preparing for exams. 
• Assists students in developing greater self-directed learning strategies. 
• Creates andmaintainsaMath-focusedCanvas course shellwhich will serve as a repository of Math resources tutors can use as they work withtheir students.
• Monitorsscheduling & documentation through Starfish.
• Maintains detailed records: Starfish Outcome Notes, Client Report Forms, Satisfaction Surveys, and other assessment measures.
• Createsand compilesMath-focusedinstructional and marketingmaterials.
• Develops and delivers workshops, presentations, and online resources for students on a range ofMath topics.
• Provides administrative support fortheChaikenCenter for StudentSuccess.
• Serves as a liaison to academic departments and related services.
• Performsintentionaloutreach and interact directly withunder-served andunder-resourcedstudents.
• Leads/coordinates special projects or initiatives as assigned.
• Collaborates with professors to ensure that tutoring complements classroom instruction. 

Requirements and Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess: 

• AMaster's degree (preferred) inMathor a related discipline,3+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Understanding of and familiarity with effective assessment practices focusing on academic support services.
• Excellent written, verbal communication, and presentation skills.
• Innovation and creativity in program development.
• Proven presentation, group facilitation, and teaching skills.
• Extensive ability to collaborate and develop relationships with a wide range of constituents.
• Ability to work with a diverse student population.
• Outstanding teamwork abilities.
• Ability to work late afternoon/early evening and, on occasion,weekend hours.
