Core Technology is a business-driven team of professionals, that develop and support technology solutions for customers of all business areas. Our deliverables cover automation/lifting device controls, human-machine interfaces, embedded electronics, motor controls, inverter technologies, product sustainability, reliability and asset intelligence.Â
Purpose of the RoleÂ
As material handling devices become increasingly intelligent and connected to external systems, managing machine control solutions at the system level becomes critical. While technologies, components, modules, and operational processes are primarily owned by component and platform owners, certain system-level issues fall outside existing ownership structures — for example, addressing compliance requirements at the architectural level in line with company recommendations. The System Architect, Machine Controls assumes responsibility for these cross-cutting concerns to ensure coherence, integration, and alignment.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
- Envision and guide machine control system architecture, managing system design from high-level views down to component detailsÂ
- Coordinate cross-functional technical efforts, driving technical system-level coordination across the corporationÂ
- Provide architectural guidance, mentoring, and best practices to engineering teams, fostering system-level thinking and strengthening architectural capabilities across the organizationÂ
- Manage and maintain system-level technical specifications and architectural principles, including interface specifications, data models and reference architecturesÂ
- Ensure architectural coherence and harmonization across systems and components, supporting and enabling product compliance with relevant regulationsÂ
- Create and maintain architectural descriptions for internal teams and external stakeholders to promote clarity and alignmentÂ
- Act as the cybersecurity expert at the architectural level, addressing cybersecurity requirements and best practicesÂ
- Maintain quality assurance instructions and guidelines, including system-level testing scope and criteria for features, connectivity, and cybersecurityÂ
- Create the future vision and mid-term roadmap and lead adoption and integration of advanced technologies including intelligent, self-evolving equipment and components, Industry 4.0, M2M communication, and connected servicesÂ
- Manage platform aspects such as interface principles, bus technology segmentation, and connectivity policiesÂ
- Provide advanced technical support and troubleshooting for complex system-level issues as Tier 4Â
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Software Engineering, Control Engineering, Embedded Systems, or a related fieldÂ
- 7+ years of experience in machine control system architecture, industrial automation or embedded systems Â
- Proven ability to translate business and technical requirements into system-level architectures and quality assurance processesÂ
- Strong understanding of Operational Technology (OT) environments, including industrial equipment, machine control systems, safety-related functions, field networks, and lifecycle support in customer operating environmentsÂ
- Strong knowledge of PLC systems, embedded platforms, and bus communication technologies such as Profinet and CANopenÂ
- Experience with OT cybersecurity frameworks in industrial environments (e.g. IEC 62443)Â
- Familiarity with Industry 4.0, M2M communication, and connected services technologiesÂ
- Hands-on experience on configuration, deployment, maintenance and troubleshooting on customer siteÂ
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with fluency in English (written and spoken)Â
- Experience creating system-level documentation and reference materialsÂ
- Agile development experience is a plusÂ
Additional Appreciated Skills :
- Familiarity with system segmentation into zones and conduits (zone architectures)Â
- Knowledge of Linux-based embedded systems and cloud data architecturesÂ
- Familiarity with Functional Safety standards (e.g., IEC 61508, ISO 13849)Â
- Programming skills in C/C++ or PLC programming languagesÂ
- Multilingual abilities, especially Finnish or GermanÂ
- A proactive approach to learning and adopting new technologies to strive for continual improvementÂ
