A Brief Overview
The Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for the management and documentation of the medical plan of care prescribed for the patient based on plan adopted jointly by the APP and the supervising physician / medical director. Billing and quality management activities may be part of the responsibilities. The Advanced Practice Provider managed the care of the patients in the following areas: • Infectious Disease Office – assesses patients; orders appropriate tests; responsible for providing care to patients acting as an assistant to the physicians in the clinic following established standards and practices. • Inpatient Infectious Disease- assess patients and orders appropriate tests and medications; works in conjunction with the physician to help maintain or improve a patient's quality of life. The delivery of professional nursing care at Stormont Vail Health is guided by Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring and the theory of Shared governance, both of which are congruent with the mission, vision, and values of the organization. This position is required to work weekends and holidays as warranted.

Education Qualifications

  • • Must be a graduate of an accredited PA/APRN program. Meets educational preparation or other qualifications within specified time frames as determined/outlined by specific department policy.


Experience Qualifications

  • Experience in Infectious Disease patient care. Preferred

  • All APRN incumbents are required to maintain Registered Nurse competencies as designated by Federal and State organizations and as outlined in SVH policy.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
  • Demonstrates transparent and truthful interactions to their patients, coworkers, healthcare team or leadership. Notifies leadership of any situations that may negatively impact patient care or Stormont Vail such as but not limited to harassment, conflict of interests, fraud or secondary employment.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Registered Nurse - KSBN Must have valid APRN licensure. Be certified as a nurse practitioner by a recognized national certifying body that has established standards for nurse practitioners. Required or
  • Physician Assistant (PA) - KSBHA Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support - ACLS required within 4 monoths of hire.
  • Additional certifications may be required for certain patient care settings or populations. DEA registration number is required. Required


What you will do

  • Perform a complete physical exam and record findings. Collaboration with physicians in managing acute and long term medical needs of patients. Provide monitoring and continuity of care between physician visits. Manage medical emergencies.
  • Interpret and integrate data to determine appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as needed. Synthesize data to determine preliminary diagnostic and therapeutic plan utilizing principles of prevention.
  • Order appropriate laboratory diagnostic procedures. Effectively use laboratory equipment in the clinic and know procedures for sending laboratory tests to a reference lab.
  • Administer medications and injections according to physician direction. Suture minor lacerations.
  • Interview and advise patients regarding health and illness prevention. Recommend community resources to meet patients and family needs. Instruct patients and family regarding medications and treatment instructions. Provide patient education.
  • Ensures that care delivered to patients is provided according to the Stormont Vail Health mission, strategic plans, and all internal/external regulations, policies and procedures. Practices within the Kansas Nurse Practice Act and within the guidelines of management protocols. Supports the established care models of Stormont Vail Regional Health Center. Has prescriptive authority per Kansas Nurse Practice Act and SVH protocols.
  • Has a strong understanding of billing and reimbursement related to the management of patients and generates daily charges consistent with documentation when appropriate.
  • Collaborates with interdisciplinary care teams to provide communication of patient’s plan of care and outcomes as well as health issues not related to cardiovascular health as appropriate.
  • Complete preoperative evaluations.
  • Completes hospital rounding and documentation in a through and accurate manner, according to the Medical Staff Rules and Regulations.
  • Provide routine hospital coverage on weekends per predetermined schedule.
