The University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for Sr. Accounting Assistant. The Accounting Assistant performs a variety of general clerical and accounting functions, such as reconciliation of bank accounts, posting information, balancing general or subsidiary ledgers, processing payments, and compiling segments of monthly closings and annual reports.

Core Job Functions:

• Provides accounting support to the department.

• Prepare and maintainsaccounting documents and records.

• Preparesbank deposits, general ledger postings,and statements.

• Reconcilesaccounts in a timely manner.

• Enterskey data of financial transactions inapplicable system/database.

• Researches, tracks,and restoresaccounting or documentation problems and discrepancies.

• Informsmanagement and compilesreports orsummaries on activity areas.

• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Assiststhe Payroll & Benefits Accounting Departmentswith accounting, payroll, andtaxresponsibilities. 

Accounting&Audit 

• Gathers payroll record audit requests for Risk Management, General Counsel, Grant department, 990 document requests, and other internal and external stakeholders. 

• Provides941taxdepositconfirmationandlogtoORAandChildProtectionsDept.eachmonth. 

• Logs1042-SA/Ptaxpaymentsforusewithendofyear1042-Staxfiling. 

• Bank Reconciliation entries (Ad Hoc Bank Transactions-AHBT) to reconcile Payroll Banks 43 & 27 

• Payroll Accounting Adjustments (PAAs) to correct any posting issues with pay in Workday 

• AssistsPayroll Tax AdministratorwithADPintegrationrunsandoffandoncyclereconciliations. 

• Assists with the 941and1042taxwires. 

ForeignNationalProcessing 

• AssistsPayroll Tax Administratorwith1042annualprocessing. 

• ForeignNationalW-4,RAelectionchangesinWorkday inbox. 

• AssistsPayroll Tax AdministratorwithannualidentificationofForeignNationalandcommunications in November. 

• AssistsPayroll Tax AdministratorwithintegrationprocessbetweenFNIS,TaxNavandWorkday. 

• ReviewsWindstarintegrationerrorlogsandresolveerrors. 

• ServesasbackuptoPayroll Tax AdministratorinrunningWindstarintegrations. 

• ManagesFNISForeignNationalAnalysisforapprox.200FN.paidviaWorkdayand400FN receiving scholarships fromCane link. This includes receipt and review of support documentation uploaded as backup to FNIS form submission. 

• RespondstoForeignNationalquestionsandFNISsitedataentryquestions.Escalate complex tax questions toPayroll Tax Administrator. 

• WorkswithPayrollAnalystonFICArefundsandYTDadjustmentsrelatedtoForeignNationals. 

• AssistsPayroll Tax Administrator with reviewing the excess in Scholarship Report from Cane link toidentifyStudentAthletesandothersreceivingexcessscholarship.Thisisinclusiveoftax payment and processing of FNdocument and working with Cashiers Office to charge studentaccount for taxes. 

• AssistsPayroll TaxAdministratorwithrunningtheWindstarIntegrationsaccordingtoPayrollpay cycles. PY049- Windstar Tax Treaty, PY050 Windstar FICA updates IN, PY144 Windstar W-4 IN.  

   

  UnclaimedCheckProcessing 

  • AssistsPayroll Tax Administratorwithannualunclaimedpayrollchecksreporting.Processincludes communication with employee,paymentreissue and final report submission to Controllers Office for remittance to the state. 

   

  W-2Processing 

  • AssistsPayroll Tax AdministratorwithannualproductionofW-2taxforms.
