Job Summary:

Develops short- and long-term mission and ethics goals and plans ensuring alignment with broader organization priorities. Utilizes metrics and organization vision to lead and direct mission and ethics activities.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements:

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serves as a member of the leadership team providing strategic direction on mission and ethics related issues.  Works effectively as a team member in a dynamic executive environment in a matrix organization and promotes teamwork within and across the organization by maintaining positive relationships and utilizing effective problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrates and imparts the mission, philosophy, values and vision of the organization in daily activities and into operational functions, processes and environment.
  • Provides project direction, leadership and communication.  Manages workflow within department and fields client requests.  Contributes to the financial performance of the organization.
  • Develops and implements programs to cultivate understanding of the mission, vision, values and core commitments of the organization.  Integrates mission and vision across organization and community health and benefit activities.
  • Collaborates with system leaders to offer a mission/ethics perspective on major organizational issues, efforts and initiatives.
  • Identifies clinical and organizational issues of importance to  organization's mission and values and develops responses, positions, policies, strategies, and educational initiatives.
  • Ensures existence of ethics committees and provides support in accordance with system best practices and quality expectations.  Serves as a resource for ethics committees.
  • Ensures appropriate staffing levels are maintained.  Guides and develops staff and oversees special projects.  Leads the development of pastoral care services in response to changing health care delivery trends.
  • Maintains knowledge on developments in health care, theology and ethics. Regularly informs and updates staff on organizational and industry issues.  Maintains relationships with external constituents in the fields of health care ethics, formation and theology.
  • Contributes to mission and ethics field through research, writing and presentation for the benefit of the overall health ministry.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Master's degree in Moral Theology, Bioethics, or related field required, Doctorate preferred

EXPERIENCE

  • Ten years' experience, with five years' in leadership

REQUIRED PROFESSIONAL LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS 

  • Health Care Ethics Consultation Certification preferred
