Position OverviewÂ
Specter Aerospace is seeking a Senior Accountant to support our growing finance and accounting operations as we move toward hypersonic flight testing and scaled production. This role blends core accounting, government contract financials, and operational support.Â

Based in Peabody, MA, Specter leverages advanced propulsion, manufacturing, and testing capabilities to rapidly develop supersonic and hypersonic systems. We are backed by a mix of government R&D organizations, commercial partners, and private investment, with close collaborations across leading research institutions.Â
Key ResponsibilitiesÂ
Core AccountingÂ
• Maintain general ledger accounts, journal entries, monthly reconciliations, and month-end closeÂ
• Classify all transactions by contract; ensure accuracy of charge codes and allocationsÂ
• Prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements for leadership and auditorsÂ
• Manage bank and credit card reconciliationsÂ
• Track company assets, maintain depreciation schedules, and review equipment/building leasesÂ
Government Contracting & BillingÂ
• Manage government invoicing, including submissions via WAWF/PIEEÂ
• Assist with government contract billing, collections, audits, and compliance documentationÂ
• Ensure adherence to FAR, DFARS, CAS (as applicable), and DCAA expectationsÂ
• Support proposal cost volumes and customer-required financial documentationÂ
Operational Financial SupportÂ
• Manage purchasing, purchase orders, and accounts payable on a weekly cadenceÂ
• Track procurement of materials, equipment, and company ordersÂ
• Collaborate with HR to implement payroll and benefits entries into financial statementsÂ
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost analysis for internal planning and government programsÂ
• Run periodic spend reports for directors and program leadershipÂ
• Contribute to process improvements and internal controls developmentÂ
Additional DutiesÂ
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams including HR, operations, suppliers, and customersÂ
• Provide support during financial reviews, audits, and special projectsÂ
• Perform other administrative or financial tasks as needed in a fast-paced environmentÂ
Required QualificationsÂ
- Must be a U.S. Citizen
• Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related disciplineÂ
• 3–5 years of professional accounting experienceÂ
• Strong understanding of balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statementsÂ
• Experience with AP/AR, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reportingÂ
• Experience with government contracting or regulated financial environmentsÂ
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)Â
• Strong communication skills and ability to work with executives, vendors, and government personnelÂ
• Ability to travel onsite to Peabody, MA as neededÂ
Preferred QualificationsÂ
- CPA (active or in progress)
• Experience with QuickBooks Online orGovBooksÂ
• Knowledge of FAR, DFARS, CAS, and other government cost accounting standardsÂ
• Experience using PIEE/WAWF and other government financial portalsÂ
• Familiarity with BambooHR, Jira, or other ERP/HRIS toolsÂ
• Experience briefing executives or program leadershipÂ
• Prior experience in aerospace, defense, R&D, or manufacturing environmentsÂ
