About Sparkfund

Sparkfund is the utility services company unlocking capacity on the grid. Through its Distributed Capacity Procurement (DCP) model, Sparkfund enables utilities, energy majors, and large-load customers to deploy front-of-the-meter batteries and gensets as distribution infrastructure. By adding targeted capacity exactly where and when the grid needs it most, DCP helps meet demand, support reliability, and put downward pressure on rates. Sparkfund supports program design, grid value assessment, asset host engagement, and value chain management to ensure on-time, on-budget deployment with maximum system value and lowest cost.

With more than 3,200 projects deployed across 43 states and more than 300MW of energized assets constructed, Sparkfund is transforming customer-sited assets into a valuable portfolio resource for the benefit of our society. To learn more about Sparkfund, visit sparkfund.com.

Help Shape the Future of the Electric Grid

The electric grid is evolving faster than it has in decades.

Utilities are navigating unprecedented growth driven by electrification, data centers, distributed energy resources (DERs), and battery energy storage systems (BESS). At Sparkfund, we partner directly with electric utilities to help solve these challenges by developing innovative programs that increase grid flexibility, improve reliability, and defer costly infrastructure investments.

We're looking for aSenior Power Systems Engineer withdirect utility industry experience to help lead this transformation.

This role is ideal for someone who understands how utilities plan, operate, and modernize the distribution grid and wants to apply that expertise to solving some of the industry's most complex challenges. You'll work alongside utility engineers, planners, operations teams, regulators, and internal cross-functional teams to design and implement distributed energy solutions that make a measurable impact.

What You'll Do

As a Senior Power Systems Engineer, you'll serve as a technical subject matter expert supporting utility partners across multiple markets.

You'll:

  • Partner directly with electric utility engineering, planning, and operations teams to identify and evaluate grid needs.

  • Analyze utility distribution systems, hosting capacity, load growth, and operational constraints.

  • Support the design and implementation of distributed energy resource (DER) programs, including battery energy storage systems (BESS), EV charging infrastructure, and flexible load solutions.

  • Develop communications, controls, and operational technology (OT) integration strategies that enable grid-connected assets to participate in utility and market programs.

  • Support distribution planning, interconnection studies, and DER integration efforts.

  • Translate complex engineering challenges into practical recommendations for both technical and business stakeholders.

  • Collaborate with Commercialization, Program Management, and Project Delivery teams to bring innovative utility solutions from concept through implementation.

What Makes This Role Unique

  • Work directly with multiple electric utilities across different regions and regulatory environments.

  • Influence how distributed energy resources are integrated into the modern electric grid.

  • Help utilities solve real-world engineering challenges related to grid reliability, capacity, and resilience.
