Power BI Developer (Finance)

from 🇵🇭 Philippines

Role overview

This is a Power BI Developer role sitting inside the Finance team and reporting directly to the Finance Director. It is not a generic BI role. It requires strong Power BI technical skills combined with financial domain knowledge or hands-on experience of accounting and PSA systems. You will work across Halo PSA, Xero, Float and HubSpot to build a unified reporting model on top of them.

The Finance Director owns the commercial and financial logic and the analytical design. You own the build.

Job Details:

Work from home
Monday to Friday | 3 PM to 12 AM Manila Time

Key responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Power BI reporting for the leadership team, including the CEO dashboard, departmental budget against actual reporting, utilisation and customer profitability.
  • Create unified reporting models across Halo PSA, Xero, Float and HubSpot, including the entity matching between Halo customers and Xero contacts.
  • Build and maintain the semantic model: star schema design, relationship management and performance optimisation.
  • Administer Power BI Service, covering workspace management, gateway configuration, scheduled refreshes and row level security.
  • Automate recurring finance reconciliation work, including supplier overage billing, to an auditable and reproducible standard.
  • Reconcile reporting output back to source and evidence it as part of delivery.
  • Gather requirements directly from non-technical colleagues across finance, sales and operations, and convert them into written specifications.
  • Work within the established delivery process covering high level plan, scope of work, pre-sales authorisation, peer review and documentation before go-live.

Essential requirements

Power BI technical skills

  • Substantial hands-on Power BI development experience in a production environment.
  • Advanced DAX: measures, calculated columns, time intelligence and complex calculations.
  • Power Query: ETL, data transformation and M language.
  • Data modelling: star schema, relationship management and performance optimisation.
  • Power BI Service: workspace management, gateway configuration, scheduled refreshes and row level security.
  • SQL proficiency: queries, joins, views and stored procedures.

Financial domain knowledge

  • Previous experience building financial reporting dashboards or working directly with accounting and finance systems.
  • Understanding of core financial metrics: gross margin, EBITDA, utilisation, cost to serve and project profitability.
  • Experience with management accounts, customer profitability analysis, divisional profit and loss, or budget variance reporting.
  • Able to understand the business context behind financial data and identify insight rather than only render figures.

Accuracy and reconciliation

  • You tie reporting output back to source and present the reconciliation as part of delivery, unprompted.
  • You treat a figure that drives an invoice as materially different from a figure on a dashboard, and test it accordingly.
  • You surface the limitations of your own build before anyone else finds them.

Professional skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving ability.
  • Excellent communication. You can explain technical concepts to finance professionals and financial concepts to technical colleagues.
  • Self-starter, able to work independently with direction from the Finance Director.
  • Able to gather requirements from business stakeholders unaided, and patient with colleagues who do not think in data terms. Most of the people you will work with are accountants and engineers, not analysts.
  • Disciplined working practice: work held in shared workspaces and source control rather than locally, and documented so that a colleague could pick it up.

Desirable experience

Area

Detail

Systems integration

Experience building API integrations between business systems, not only consuming APIs for reporting. Working knowledge of REST, OAuth2 and webhooks. Understanding of what makes a two-way sync difficult: write conflicts, retries, idempotency and reconciling the two sides when they drift.

Data warehouse and architecture

Involvement in delivering a data warehouse or lakehouse. Staging layer design, dimensional modelling, incremental loading and slowly changing dimensions. Able to contribute to a platform decision such as Microsoft Fabric against Azure SQL on cost, capacity and licensing grounds.

Accounting platform integration

Integrating Xero, QuickBooks, Sage or NetSuite with reporting tools.

PSA and MSP tooling

Halo PSA, ConnectWise, Autotask or Datto, or comparable time tracking and project management systems. IT Glue, Liongard and Scalepad exposure useful.

Sector background

MSP, professional services or another project-based business where billable utilisation and project margin matter.

Microsoft Fabric

Lakehouse, pipelines, and a working understanding of capacity and licensing cost.

Low-code automation

Power Automate, Zapier or similar, and the judgement to know when a low-code route beats a coded one.

AI-assisted development

Practical use of tools such as Claude Code inside a reviewed workflow.
